My feet, hands and fingers all marched to the correct drummer today and I was finally able to spin wool into yarn.
On my Ashford Traditional Spinning Wheel, that is. I've been making rough yarn with a spindle, but the wheel is so much nicer, yet not nearly as portable.
I am pleased. And somewhat relieved, because I was beginning to think I would never figure it out!

Oh yeah? But were you able to chew gum too?
As a spinning teacher, I know the joy of that moment for you! Congrats! Spin everyday, for at least 10 minutes!!!!
Congratulations! Quite a sense of accomplishment.
My wife has been spinning for more than 20 years. She also uses an Ashford. Most of what she spins is dog hair, of which we have a neverending supply.
Dave, I knew you guys had hairy dogs, but I did not know your lovely wife spins!
If you like, I’ll send you some mohair to play with! (free of course!)
Congratulations! I have a drop spindle that I used for therapy, but the wheel is much nicer.
We just got the sewing room in order. The Engineer still has to mud and tape the drywall, but it does have full spectrum lighting in it and I can actually have my recliner in there should I need to knit in comfort.
Well done!
Yes, she’s been spinning for well over 20 years now. I think I bought her Ashford spinning wheel as her Christmas present the first year we were married.
A side benefit of her spinning is that I have Samoyed hair mittens, a Samoyed hair vest, and a Samoyed hair sweater. The sweater is so warm that it can be worn in subzero weather in lieu of a coat.
