Make a difference. Call your members of Congress. Just say no! This bill is going way beyond the original intent of the bailout. Democrat members of Congress are adding all kinds of money that have nothing to do with this supposed bailout - everything from billions, yes, billions of dollars to Acorn, known for their encouragement of voter registration fraud - to money for the arts, which should not be supported by government anyway.
It's easy. It takes 5 minutes. Call your Senators, your Representative. If you don't know who they are, well, it's about time you did know - go to "
Contacting the Congress" and type in your address to find out their names and phone numbers.
Do this for your children and their children, because they will be paying for this gargantuan boondoggle for years and years after you are dead.
One voice, when added to many, does count.
Well, yes, of course the bill goes far beyond the original intent of the bailout…because this is a new a totally separate bill. The bailout bills- one for the banking industry and one for the automotive industry, are not the same as the stimulus bill, though it does seem conservative commentators are confusing that fact.
In the end, we can disagree as to where the money is spent, but we can’t disagree on history: The New Deal successfully put people back to work, and the billions in this bill for infrastructure improvements and job training, and all sorts of other things, will do exactly that.
And don’t forget the tax cuts- the hundreds of billions of dollars in tax cuts.
Again, you don’t have to like the bill- it’s obvious you don’t. But it isn’t going to end the world. How do I know? The New Deal didn’t.
Profligracy on both sides, I tell ya.
Aren’t the very same hypocrites that are now howling at Obama’s proposal, the very same ones that supported the Paulson/Bush-Raping-of-the-People’s-Ark Act of 2008 er The TARP?
What’s the difference between shoveling out $700 Billion into the greedy of the well connected fatcats, “patriotic”, and shoveling out $800 Billion to Day Cares/Unions/Condoms “scandalous”?
Why, the other team is now playing with what used to be their ball; that’s all. Both sides make me sick.
Jason,
All these bills have been passed under the aegis of saving the economy.
WWII, as I have mentioned before, is what saved the USA from the Depression - NOT the “New Deal”, which has failed because it is a Ponzi scheme dependent upon an ever-increasing population of working people.
I was against the bailout money, too. So were most conservatives I know.
More importantly, Jason - how come you never approved my comment on the Jenkin’s bashing (I’ll hand you a hammer) regarding moving the inmates to Leavenworth?
C’mon, we Kansas bloggers are so few in number we gotta support each other!
And I gotta agree with SWWBO here (leave aside I sleep next to her at night) - it was the ramp-up to WWII that got us out of the Depression.
But we can both cite dozens of places that will support our respective views, so that’s probably a pointless discussion, too.
Sigh. It’s all going to be smoke and mirrors.
Me, I think we’ve little choice but to run through a significant recession. We’ve been living on credit and the bill is coming due. The question is how to pay it so that the adjustment is made and it doesn’t turn into a full blown depression.
