I have finally made a short, and not great, video of Buffy, our new addition to the family.

She's soooo cute! I love her little tail-up-let's-see-the-world walk! I'll add her to the next Canine Carnival... :)

Your new furbaby is adorable! I've been meaning to visit your blog to tell we have one now too (ok...the cats have one and let me stop by once in a while!)
Thanks for keeping me on your email list!

I bet that she has a sweet spot, right where her clavicle meets her breast bone. Can I come and try it? I'd loooove to see her go into that spasmodic leg pumping action.
Oh yeah!

Great Pyrenees?

Cuteness overload. I wish I was there to meet her.

Sleepy Old Bear - Buffy is not a Great Pyrenees, but a Maremma sheep dog - the Italian equivalent of the Great Pyrenees. She was born at a goat farm, and is comfortable with goats and now, with chickens. As soon as she is big enough to sleep in the barn with the goats, she will be there permanently as a livestock guardian dog. Right now, she is able to climb thru the fencing, and she is small enough that coyotes or wild cats could kill her, so we are keeping her in at night.

Well, unless I am losing my mind -- a very real possibility -- this is the second Maremma I have met at a distance in the past couple of weeks. We have a Great Pyr, and if he is a bit wilder than the Newf we had15 years, we are very fond of him. He sure doesn't like being groomed, and we haven't tried to bathe him since he was about 12 weeks old.
You will enjoy your puppy.

Gotta kill those coyote fleas and those coyotes between the toes and what I'm assuming was a Wile E. Coyote toy.
She's adorable, Beth!

Sleepy Old Bear - I had never heard of the breed until a month or so ago, then a woman on the Angora Goat yahoo group put out the word that she had 6 Maremma puppies for sale. We drove all the way to Wisconsin to get her, she was only $200, and not registered, but I met her dam and sire and uncle, and they were all beautiful good guardians.
I love the picture of your beautiful Bilbo - what a gorgeous dog!

Joanie - Buffy will grow to be about 100 pounds, and when I say coyote killer, I mean it!
The coyotes and hawks have decimated my flock of chickens and guineas and ducks. I can't do anything about the hawks but give the birds more hiding places, but I can kill the coyotes. John has already shot 3 of them. Buffy will honestly be able to protect the birds and the goats from predators.
Someday, you and ld need to come visit.

Until she's all grown, she'll just have to get those other little pests.
And yes, LD and I want to come visit. When I'm finally back to "normal", I'll be able to start working and saving money.

Here in Cape Breton there is a handful of Great Pyrs, and have been used successfully as anti-coyote dogs. Unfortunately one lost a battle against a herd of coyotes.
I understand that they are used in the Arctic to chase off polar bears from around drilling rigs. Apparently they just know how to do their job--no training required. The agility of our pet is absolutely astounding. It would be fun to see him in action ... but I would think that sleeping all day on a queen-sized bed would take a little of the fire out of him.
