Update on farming
The hen house is getting close to completion. I never imagined it would take so darn long! Today, I put in a doorway and I'm currently caulking the walls and floor.
I hope to get the roof on either this evening or tomorrow. I have roofing material and all the stuff we need, but gosh, it's a little scary getting up that high.
I'll get some pictures up when our bandwidth usage allows it.

Obama's friends should be a signal to all of us
William Ayers, Rev. Wright, Obama's own wife - all of these people hate the United States. How can anyone believe that Obama would hang out with people like that and not notice their political outlook?
And now, I hear obvious shills calling into local radio shows simply to push Obama and to mock Palin and McCain as unworthy and stupid.
I do not trust Obama. I believe he is going to be very bad for our Country if he is elected president. Too many of his supporters are making threats - this is the USA, not Kenya or Venezuela or Cuba.
All I can do is vote my conscience. Vote for Palin and McCain.

ugh
If you think that you can prove your point anywhere simply by calling the person you disagree with stupid, you need to go take a logic course.
FYI - I have a college degree. I took Economics, both Micro and Macro. I believe in God. I believe life is precious. I believe in helping our fellow men and women, and have done so on a very personal level. From helping a young, non-related man through college to giving a friend a home while she is figuring out what to do with her life.
I am not a member of the NRA, but my husband is a lifetime member.
If you disagree with any opinion I have, then you have that right in a free society, as ours currently is. However, please make an attempt to be civil.
Another reason I don't want Obama as president is that he has no respect for the Constitution, and has made no bones about it.
If he is elected, it will be a one term presidency. And the Dems will be out of congress in two years.

Other reasons why I will vote for Palin/McCain
I do not want a 2nd Bill Of Rights. Apparently, Obama and his minions want to create a new Bill Of Rights - the right to a house, the right to a job, the right to health care.
No mention of anyone EARNING anything. They just want entitlements. Just how long do they think the producers of this country will continue to produce as Obama and friends take our earnings, our property, our livelihoods to give to people who will not produce anything of value.

Why I vote
As I stated in my post below, Obama's pro-abortion pro-infanticide beliefs are one of the top ten reasons I will vote against him and for McCain.
Here is another reason:
October 10, 2008
Fellow Sportsman,
Hello, my name is Rich Pearson and I have been active in the firearm rights movement for over 40 years. For the past 15 years, I have served in the Illinois state capitol as the chief lobbyist for the Illinois State Rifle Association.I lobbied Barack Obama extensively while he was an Illinois State Senator. As a result of that experience, I know Obama’s attitudes toward guns and gun owners better than anyone. The truth be told, in all my years in the Capitol I have never met a legislator who harbors more contempt for the law-abiding firearm owner than Barack Obama.
Although Obama claims to be an advocate for the 2nd Amendment, his voting record in the Illinois Senate paints a very different picture. While a state senator, Obama voted for a bill that would ban nearly every hunting rifle, shotgun and target rifle owned by Illinois citizens. That same bill would authorize the state police to raid homes of gun owners and forcibly confiscate banned guns. Obama supported a bill that would shut down law-abiding firearm manufacturers including Springfield Armory, Armalite, Rock River Arms and Les Baer. Obama also voted for a bill that would prohibit law-abiding citizens from purchasing more than one gun per month.
Without a doubt, Barack Obama has proven himself to be an enemy of the law abiding firearm owner. At the same time, Obama has proven himself to be a friend to the hardened criminal. While a state senator, Obama voted 4 times against legislation that would allow a homeowner to use a firearm in defense of home and family.
Does Barack Obama still sound to you like a “friend” of the law-abiding gun owner?
And speaking of friends, you can always tell a person by the company they keep. Obama counts among his friends the Rev. Michael Pfleger - a renegade Chicago priest who has openly called for the murder of gun shop owners and pro-gun legislators. Then there is his buddy Richard Daley, the mayor of Chicago who has declared that if it were up to him, nobody would be allowed to own a gun. And let’s not forget Obama’s pal George Soros - the guy who has pumped millions of dollars into the UN’s international effort to disarm law-abiding citizens.
Obama has shown that he is more than willing to use other people’s money to fund his campaign to take your guns away from you. While a board member of the leftist Joyce Foundation, Barack Obama wrote checks for tens of millions of dollars to extremist gun control organizations such as the Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence and the Violence Policy Center.
Does Barack Obama still sound to you like a “friend” of the law-abiding gun owner?
Go read the whole letter at John of Argghhh!'s place.
I am a gun owner. I'm a pretty good shot. If I want a gun to protect myself, my family and my home, the Constitution gives me that right. Obama, Pelosi and Reid will do what they can to take away my Constitutional Rights.
I know that Sarah Palin will do all she can to protect those rights. So I vote for Sarah Palin and McCain.

Why I vote
Pope John Paul II stated:
“Disregard for the right to life, precisely because it leads to the killing of the person whom society exists to serve, is what most directly conflicts with the possibility of achieving the common good... It is impossible to further the common good without acknowledging and defending the right to life, upon which all the other inalienable rights of individuals are founded and from which they develop.” (The Gospel of Life, 72, 101).
That is one of the top ten reasons to vote for John McCain and against Barrack Hussein Obama.

Stock Market, Business, Economy
I am convinced that the main reason the market is failing so quickly is the impending doom of an Obama Presidency.
Gah.

He is going to make it impossible to earn money.

Joe the Plumber
I am absolutely shocked at the vitriol of the Left and the MSM. They are treating Joe the Plumber like a criminal - why? Because he asked Obama a question and Obama's answer actually revealed that the Obama campaign is all about turning this country into a Socialist Country. He wants to "Spread the wealth around" because, don't ya know, that would be good for everybody!
Everybody except for those who work hard to succeed. Obama plans to punish any of us who do well by taking more of our earnings than we are currently taxed - a lot more. A whole lot more. And then, to take that money, take out a bunch of it for bureaucrats and then give it to people who have not earned it, don't want to earn it and are now just going to sit back and do as little as possible, since the Joes of the world are making it possible.
Even the Toledo, Ohio City Officials are investigating the poor guy.
This is freedom of speech? I've never seen anything like this before, and it scares the absolute shit out of me.
Naturally, Obama, as always, says that he is not responsible for what other Democrats do or say. He is trying very hard to be a teflon candidate.
He should speak out against this persecution of anyone who speaks against him.

Rainy days
Hmmm. I have to work on the new Hen House - it's 8x14 feet long, and has a peak roof that is a lot higher than we realized. I have the two trusses up on the ends, but I have to get another 6 trusses up and screwed in.
I am afraid I'm going to have to go buy a longer ladder, because we were barely able to reach the peak with the ones we have.
This is going to be a very pricey hen house! I've spent over $600 for supplies, but I will have the satisfaction of knowing John and I and Wendy built it.
This darn rain is really pushing my schedule for building back.
In other farm news, Buffy is doing well. She and Gunner go out together and survey the area around the barn and house, keeping coyotes away. We've had a couple of close calls with skunks, though. I have to remember to completely close the barn door at night, and to check to be sure there are no spots where a skunk can sneak in. They are evil!
I found out that Holland Feed will sell my eggs for me. Only they will only sell them for $2 a dozen. That is $1 less than I normally get. However, it's better than having the eggs sitting in the fridge waiting for me to think of yet another egg recipe - LOL! And it should at least pay for their feed. I've switched to a different brand, instead of $14 for 50 lbs, it is $8 for 40 pounds. Feed has gone up so much the past year!
I'm going to make a nice market basket today, if it comes out, I'll put a picture up.

Evil Genius
Apparently, there is a very nifty computer game by name of Roller Coaster Tycoon 3. I remember Roller Coaster Tycoon, the original, I believe Andy had it at one point. But I never dreamed that someone would do the following:
I had to stifle my laughter because I'm the only one in the house awake, but what Evil Genius devised that!?!

Waking up before the dawn
Is starting to be a habit. Probably a good habit. I got up and fed dogs, cats and made coffee. I walked out to the barn to check on the goats and chickens and to turn on the radio and get Buffy the Coyote Slayer's puppy food.
Beautiful, beautiful sky. Lots of stars, no moon. And then I heard a bunch of absolutely bone-chilling sounds coming from the woods. I have no idea what it was. I'm hoping not a cougar or bobcat. That would be very bad. The sounds were not from owls or coyotes, I don't know. Maybe I'll go look for paw prints later today.
We have a lovely praying mantis watching for bugs in the barn. I told him he was welcome to over-winter here and get rid of insects! Not too sure he understood. If he is out there later, I'll get a picture of him.
Oh, speaking of pictures, I have to put together a video of Buffy. She is so cute that she looks like a huge stuffed dog.
She is a challenge to train, though. I think she finally understands that she has to protect the chickens, ducks, guineas and goats, not chase them!
I will continue working on my new hen house today. I am starting to put the floor on over the base. The instructions are a little unclear on Step 5. I'm building the 8x14 model, can't figure out why I'm supposed to cut the floor one inch shorter than the base - do I lay it out leaving 1/2 inch of the base all around or what? If anyone knows, please tell me!
Okay, I can hear Hal - he has to eat separately because he has very expensive food for his bladder condition - he wants out of his dining room (our bathroom).
Have a great Friday, all!

This mornings after debate debate on KMBZ
Wow, I got into a huge argument with KJ during our debate discussion this morning. He and I are so far apart when it comes to personal responsibility and healthcare and mortgages, etc.
And to top that off, they took pictures today, and posted them on the KMBZ website - I thought radio was non-visual, so I look like hell, but if you wish to download the podcast or look at the pictures - go here.

Waking up before the chickens
Got up extra early to take care of critters before heading off to KMBZ radio.
I'll be on from 8 to 9 with the rest of the listener panel to discuss the debates.
I thought that McCain had more substance, and Obama spent a lot of time just talking in circles, but neither of them really impressed me much. Certainly not a performance that would change anyone's mind for either candidate.
This election has been going on for over 2 years. It's ridiculous. The open primary system in many states has allowed weak candidates on both sides to get the nominations for President. A minority of voters are going to primaries, and we end up with a wacko left wing Senator vs a Republican Senator who doesn't seem to understand freedom of speech (McCain Feingold).
Ugh. I honestly wish that Sarah Palin was running for President.

Alpha Omega?
Remember that video of the boys chanting Alpha Omega and then chanting about Obama being the reason for everything?
It is here.
Anyway, today, I find out that video was made in a Kansas City, Missouri PUBLIC Charter School! Not even a high school, but a MIDDLE SCHOOL!
I'm pissed.
The Kansas City, Missouri School District has been an awful mess and an embarrassment for decades. The School Board is perennially unable to do anything to educate the children there. They continue to be voted into office by people who were apparently educated in the Kansas City School District, because they have apparently learned nothing!!!!
The teacher, whose name is not being released by the school, has been suspended - but, this fascist display of Obamadoration cannot be undone, and should warn everyone of how wacked many of Obama's supporters are - not all, but many.
I am SO GLAD I no longer live in Kansas City.

Obama May Have Overstated Role in State Ethics Reform
Barack Obama likes to give himself star billing for his role in enacting ethics reforms in Illinois a decade ago, but he didn't act alone."When I was in Illinois, I passed the toughest ethics reform in 25 years there, despite the opposition of Democrats and Republicans," the Democratic presidential candidate told a New Hampshire audience last month.
In fact, Obama was part of an ensemble that negotiated the legislation and built support for it. And the ethics bill passed by lopsided margins of 52-4 in the Senate and 102-3 in the House, although its riskier moments came earlier during those behind-the-scene negotiations that Obama was heavily involved in.

An Obama Regiment?
So, now, Obama fans are creating junior regiments with Obama T-shirts and camouflage pants?
I really don't care for this Obamadoration. Too much of a cult of personality - you know, like Lenin, Stalin, Hitler, etc.
Not to go over the top with this, but I don't recall anything like this during any election in my lifetime. It's scary to me.
Thanks to Blatherings for bringing this to light!

Okay, Black Lung is really icky
But . . . should it be getting more money allocated in the Economic Stability Act? I don't think so.
All these things being thrown into a huge bill so they can get stuffed passed that otherwise would not be passed.
Fie on them! Fie on their children and their children's children!!!!
Gosh darn, I am furious!!!
Posted by Beth at 10:04 AM | Comments (3)
OMG! Look at this stupid Bailout Bill!
The Economic Stabilization Act is full of crap! Did you have any idea that there are all kinds of energy incentives in there?
Look at part of the index of this giant bill:
Carbon Mitigation and Coal Provisions
Sec. 111. Expansion and modification of advanced coal project investment credit.
Sec. 112. Expansion and modification of coal gasification investment credit.
Sec. 113. Temporary increase in coal excise tax; funding of Black Lung Disability
Trust Fund.
Sec. 114. Special rules for refund of the coal excise tax to certain coal producers
and exporters.
Sec. 115. Tax credit for carbon dioxide sequestration.
Sec. 116. Certain income and gains relating to industrial source carbon dioxide
treated as qualifying income for publicly traded partnerships.
Sec. 117. Carbon audit of the tax code.
And that is just the beginning - stuff that has NOTHING WHATSOEVER TO DO WITH THE DAMNED BAILOUT is all over this bill!!
SEND TEA BAGS TO CONGRESS!!

Send a Tea Bag to Congress!
Michele of A Big Victory has a great idea to protest this ridiculously expensive "bank bailout" - she is holding a Boston Tea Party!
I think we ought to send teabags to President Bush and to both houses of the Congress.
I'm very happy with my Kansas Senators, Brownback and Roberts. They voted against this ill-advised rush to take more money from the voters.
I want those Senators and Members of the House who passed the ill-conceived bills to allow Freddie Mac and Fannie May to give out 100 percent home loans to admit their mistake - do you hear me, Barney Frank and friends?
I hope their constituents have the smarts to vote Barney and Nancy and Harry out of office this November.

Apparently, I didn't suck on Monday when I was on KMBZ radio for a panel discussion on the Presidential Debate. I have been invited back for another discussion on Friday, after the Vice Presidential Debate.
I'll definitely get there on time this time! That was embarrassing!

Hmmm, I think Dave Ramsey has a great solution
I don't know if you are familiar with Dave Ramsey, but he has helped a lot of people figure out how to live within their means and pay off their debt without taking bankruptcy.
He has a great solution for this mess - here is the link to his blog.
Dave suggests that we send our representatives in Congress this letter:
Years of bad decisions and stupid mistakes have created an economic nightmare in this country, but $700 billion in new debt is not the answer. As a tax-paying American citizen, I will not support any congressperson who votes to implement such a policy. Instead, I submit the following three steps:Common Sense Plan.
I. INSURANCEA. Insure the subprime bonds/mortgages with an underlying FHA-type insurance. Government-insured and backed loans would have an instant market all over the world, creating immediate and needed liquidity.
B. In order for a company to accept the government-backed insurance, they must do two things:
1. Rewrite any mortgage that is more than three months delinquent to a 6% fixed-rate mortgage.
a. Roll all back payments with no late fees or legal costs into the balance. This brings homeowners current and allows them a chance to keep their homes.
b. Cancel all prepayment penalties to encourage refinancing or the sale of the property to pay off the bad loan. In the event of foreclosure or short sale, the borrower will not be held liable for any deficit balance. FHA does this now, and that encourages mortgage companies to go the extra mile while
working with the borrower—again limiting foreclosures and ruined lives.2. Cancel ALL golden parachutes of EXISTING and FUTURE CEOs and executive team members as long as the company holds these government-insured bonds/mortgages. This keeps underperforming executives from being paid when they don't do their jobs.
C. This backstop will cost less than $50 billion—a small fraction of the current proposal.
II. MARK TO MARKETA. Remove mark to market accounting rules for two years on only subprime Tier III bonds/mortgages. This keeps companies from being forced to artificially mark down bonds/mortgages below the value of the underlying mortgages and real estate.
B. This move creates patience in the market and has an immediate stabilizing effect on failing and ailing banks—and it costs the taxpayer nothing.
III. CAPITAL GAINS TAXA. Remove the capital gains tax completely. Investors will flood the real estate and stock market in search of tax-free profits, creating tremendous—and immediate—liquidity in the markets. Again, this costs the taxpayer nothing.
B. This move will be seen as a lightning rod politically because many will say it is helping the rich. The truth is the rich will benefit, but it will be their money that stimulates the economy. This will enable all Americans to have more stable jobs and retirement investments that go up instead of down. This is not a time for envy, and it's not a time for politics. It's time for all of us, as Americans, to
stand up, speak out, and fix this mess.
I think this is a great idea, and instead of rushing headlong into really screwing up the value of our money with this ill-advised "Bailout", this can work.
