Wendy - LOL! The ice was treacherous. Even the chickens and guineas refused to go out in the ice.

Beth,
The next time you guys get by Cabela's (or quite probably several other places) look in the shoe Dept for some things called 'YakTraks'. They're basically chains for your shoes. The ones I have are a slightly different thing that really are chains - YakTraks are bungee cord with loose 'springs' around them.
Gives you more traction than boots with less damage to the floors than crampons.
