Preparing for country life | Main | Clarification on house sizes
June 14, 2007
The weekend nears . . .
We had the inspection on the house today. Mostly, it's in decent shape - we need to have a load of dirt brought in to even out some areas around the foundation - and after the hell we have gone thru with the foundation of this house, believe me, we will do whatever we need to in order to avoid that kind of nightmare!
We are going to be downsizing, so far as household goods go. Both John and I are pack rats. We have tons of stuff that we don't need, don't use and really don't want.
I know I am going to have to hold at least one big garage sale, probably a couple. We are going from 25,000 2,500(thank you for pointing out that booboo, Barb!) sq feet of living space to about 1400 sq feet of living space (the basement adds the same amount, but needs to be finished.)
So many decisions to make - do I keep my porcelain horse collection? How about my frog collection? Do I keep it or sell it on ebay? We have all kinds of furniture we need to get rid of, it's going to be a lot of work!
It is totally worth it to me to simplify because my hope is that we will spend a lot of time working around our farm, and not miss the stuff that we have now.

For some reason, I thought you were moving into a bigger place. So it's just the outside that's bigger?

25,000 Sq Ft??
*blink blink*
Did you mean to say 2,500 Sq Ft? Still a big change, especially what with John's collection of things that go Boom or help other stuff go Boom ;-)

It's difficult to part with what we collect along the way in our lives, but it sounds as though you're both in agreement on what's important. Why have the property if you aren't outside more often? From one lover of all things equine to, whom I think to be, another, please reconsider the porcelain collection. It can't possibly take up that much space.

I say keep the frogs, too. I got a lot of frogs in that collection during my overseas and other travel (they were my bribes to get back in the door...)
If nothing else, we could finish out a little office in the barn and they could go there...

On the collectible porcelain - I would keep them all, but maybe display either parts of each, or all of one collection at a time. If I had two collections, I would try to build display racks where I could swap in/out groupings, for instance. Might be more work than you were hoping for ;-)

Don't know what to tell you about the collections, but (subliminal messaging on) I know you want to give me all of your old bookshelves that you don't want to move to the new house (subliminal messaging off). :D

Heh. The Venomous One has *no* idea how many books are stacked on the floor, tables, and other flat surfaces 'round here.
There will be *zero-zip-nada* book-holding devices made available as a part of this move.
