Some things should never go away!
I was in St. Louis, my home town, last week for a certification class and exam. Happily, I am now a Certified IBM WebSphere Core Administrator - i.e., I passed the test.
I had planned to stop at Lake Forest Bakery in Clayton, Missouri, on my way back home. They have made the best Gooey Butter Cakes for many, many years - at least 60 years or more. Gooey Butter cakes are sinfully delicious coffee cakes. I planned to purchase 3 of them.
To my utter dismay, Lake Forest Bakery was closed. One of the last independent bakeries around - closed.
Across the street, though, there was a store called the Lake Forest Confectionery. I went in to ask what had happened to the famed bakery, and found that the owner of the Confectionery had hired one of the originals bakers and now baked Gooey Butter Cakes.
So I'm happy I was able to get my coffee cakes to bring home to freeze. But, Lake Forest Bakery is gone - it had changed hands, and the new owner apparently ran it into the ground.
Used to be - there would be at least 10 or 15 customers in the bakery at a time, all patiently waiting their turn, for the Grasshopper Ice Cream pies, the dinner rolls, the caramel nut rolls and all the different coffee cakes and birthday cakes and cookies were all well worth the wait.
You name it, Lake Forest baked it. It was heaven. They always had cookies to sample, and as a little girl, it was very exciting to go there with Mom to pick up special baked goods for Sunday morning breakfast - after Mass. The smell of breads and cakes and cookies baking was wondrous!
The building is still there. I hope someone will buy it and revive the best bakery evah!!

Good news
Turkish secularists are marching against the Islamic government. 300,000 of them! They don't want the current government to drag Turkey back into the dark ages.
My hope is that people from other countries with Islamic-leaning governments will be encouraged and start to stand up against the Mullahs and their crazy sword-wielding enforcers of Islamic law.
Mainstream Media - it's your turn - report on this as much as you have Valerie Plame, and perhaps you can help the Eastern world turn the corner away from Islamic law.

The Earth needs to be saved from stupid celebritards
Hooah Wife describes the future of public restrooms after Sheryl Crow's new bright idea has been made law. It's very funny - go read it!
In case you have not heard, Ms. Crow has decided that we can save a lot of trees by limiting our use of toilet paper to one square per visit to the restroom.
One square.
If that ever happens, I'm mailing all underwear from the Donovan household to Ms. Crow so *she* can launder them!

Off to St. Louis for some training
I'm driving to my home town today for a week of training. I will be certified as an IBM WebSphere Administrator, version 6.0 when I complete my test on Friday.
Yea Ha!
I have not visited St. Louis since my dad died about 10 years ago. There is no one in the family left there (except the very evil *spit* Aunt Jean *spit*, who still manages to roam the earth, cursing all people without "good" blood).

I love boots!
(No that does not say boobs!)
The nice thing about boots is you don't have to find matching socks!

Virginia Tech
This horrible tragedy should teach everyone one thing - defend yourself. What have you got to lose if someone is methodically shooting all your classmates - if one or two had thought it would be okay to defend their lives and the lives of others, this could have stopped before so many people were killed.
I blame this attitude on the police, the government, the politicians and mostly, the media.
This is the result of the zero-tolerance policy of not allowing kids to defend themselves in school.
My prayers and thoughts are with the families of all those murdered students. There is no hell like losing a child.

I think I should make this my attitude:

My sink is shining again
The critters were whining at 3:30 am, so I got up, put the dogs out, fixed coffee and cleaned the kitchen counters and sink. Since John's mom passed away, I had kinda let those things slide, but I'm getting back into the groove again. I hope!
