Vote for Jim Ryun

Jim Ryun is our Congressman. He has taken his re-election for granted, I'm afraid, and Nancy Boyda, the Democrat, has spent a ton of money on her campaign.

Her signs say - Vote For Change - BOYDA, Democrat. So she is simply running against Jim Ryun, not for herself.

If any of you are at all tempted to vote for Bodya - just remember this - she is very much against gun ownership.

These words will come back to Haunt John Kerry!

Or at least keep him off of the national news.

Kerry supports Democratic politicians by making speeches for them and saying things like this:

“You know, education, if you make the most of it, if you study hard and you do your homework, and you make an effort to be smart, uh, you, you can do well. If you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq.”

Don't believe it? Here:

John Kerry is an idiot. The Americans who serve in the Army, Navy, Airforce, Marines and Coast Guard are better educated than the population as a whole.

For an excellent, wonderful, insightful post on this subject - way more insightful than what you see here, go see Cassandra's take on John Kerry's words.

Honest to God, John and I do not discuss what we are posting on in the morning, in fact, we don't even post in the same rooms - but I just looked at beloved Spouse's post, and apparently GMTA!

And Allah has a few things to say, also.

Also, go see Beth's post.

Her side of the story

Here in Kansas, the race for Attorney General has been a pretty hot one. There is a lot of political intrigue and backstabbing going on. When things like this happen, it gets so people do not know who is telling the truth.

You see, in response to a comment from Paul Morrison that he has no scandal in his past, Phil Klein mentioned a sexual harrassment lawsuit that was filed against Paul Morrison by a former employee some years ago when he was the Johnson County prosecuter in Olathe, Kansas. Well, Paul Morrison has accussed Mr. Klein of being sleazy, etc., by bringing this up. Both parties agreed to end the lawsuit for reasons of their own.

The Kansas City Star has a fairly balanced article about the bruhaha here.

I wanted to publish the statement of the woman who still stands behind her assertion that Paul Morrison sexually harrassed her. (Morrison claims he just said she looked attractive). So I asked Kelly Summerlin's attorney, Scott G. Hattrup, and have permission to publish this in full:

Scott G. Hattrup Attorney at Law 11925 W. 92nd Terrace Lenexa, KS 66215 (913) 492-8812 phone/ (913) 492-8836 fax SHattrup@aol.com

The following is a press release from my client, Kelly Summerlin. . Please direct all further questions through my office and do not contact my client directly.

STATEMENT OF KELLY SUMMERLIN

Because of recent false and misleading statements made by Paul Morrison, I have prepared this statement.
I was fully aware, back in 1991, when I first filed cases against Paul Morrison, that they would become a matter of public record. And that anyone, at anytime, could access and review this information. My family and I put a great deal of thought into the seriousness of this matter. I sincerely considered the fact that Mr. Morrison was a powerful and prominent person with a great deal of influence.
Although I did not personally give permission to Mr. Phill Kline to release the court documents, that was not my call to make. It was all public record. I also accept that Paul Morrison could have done the same at any time.
Mr. Kline’s references to these lawsuits have been accurate, to my understanding. On the other hand, Mr. Morrison has provided misleading and false information. I believe it is important for me to attempt to set the record straight. The public will make its own determinations. I do this for myself, my family and for anyone who has ever been in my shoes and was afraid to speak out. It was not easy then and it is not easy now. Make no mistake, what I said was true fifteen years ago and is still true today.
In 1985, I was hired by Dennis Moore, the Johnson County District Attorney, to work as a Victim/Witness Assistant. After Mr. Morrison was elected as the District Attorney, he promoted me to Coordinator of the Victim/Witness Assistance Unit. In that position I participated as a part of the prosecution team in one our office’s most significant cases involving a serial murderer. My role was to advocate and support the surviving family members. Mr. Morrison presented a select number of people with a personal award plaque recognizing their contribution in this important case; I was one of those.
On the evening of the verdict, November 4, 1990, Mr. Morrison personally invited me to a victory party at a local bar, along with other key participants. I attended, and during the course of the evening, Mr. Morrison did not simply “compliment me” by saying I was attractive, as he claims. His actions and words were much more aggressive.
Mr. Morrison approached me and told me he was uncomfortable. I asked him why and he responded by propositioning me. He then pressured me to respond by asking, “What are we going to do about that?” I was stunned. I rejected his advances and felt like all of my hard work, commitment, and dedication had been reduced to nothing.
The following day Mr. Morrison pulled me aside at work and blamed his comments and actions the night before on the alcohol. I simply acknowledged his statement. I wanted this to go away. It didn’t. Over the course of the next few weeks and months, my job description was changed, my responsibilities were reduced, I was moved out of my office, my computer was taken away, and Mr. Morrison denied me the opportunity to work with victims. The working environment was increasingly hostile and unforgiving. After five years of service, on February 12, 1991, Paul Morrison gave me the option to resign quietly and receive my vacation and sick leave benefits or be terminated and lose all benefits. He gave me a week to consider my options. I decided to fight.
I learned that Mr. Morrison was very skillful at re-arranging facts to fit a version that would be most favorable to him. He is a skilled attorney. He continues to minimize his actions and behavior and put all blame on me. He has used his power and position to control and intimidate. The second most difficult and painful experience of my life was standing up to Mr. Morrison.
The first would have to be the effort by my husband and I to have a family. During this time in 1991, my husband and I were seeking to adopt our first child. Even though I was no longer employed in his office, I learned that Mr. Morrison had spoken with the birth- grandparents of the child we were seeking to adopt. I was stunned and felt violated again. There was NO reason for any conversation regarding our private adoption to have ever taken place by Mr. Morrison. He was the District Attorney and I was a private citizen.
I fought for more than two years. I followed the legal process by first filing an EEOC complaint. I was required to wait for the outcome of the EEOC case before filing a civil sexual harassment lawsuit. I also filed a separate due process case. During that time I was repeatedly attacked and belittled by Mr. Morrison and his attorneys.
The due process case was dismissed by the judge before the jury could deliberate. Review of court records show the judge stating that the case was "difficult and not clear cut.” Mr. Morrison had asked the judge to declare the lawsuit as “frivolous, unreasonable and brought in bad faith,” in seeking to have me pay his attorney fees; the judge did not agree with Mr. Morrison.
My case for sexual harassment was never thrown out of court by a judge. Mr. Morrison’s recent statement implying that the case had no merit is a misstatement of the truth. As an attorney, he is certain to comprehend the difference in the cases; however, his public comments are misleading and deceitful. Court documents reflect that the judge concluded that in pursuing the sexual harassment charges that, “a reasonable person could find in favor of either party.” Only a jury could make the final decision. Not Mr. Morrison.
As the sexual harassment trial was approaching, more than two years after the initial incident, Mr. Morrison’s tactics had taken their toll. I needed to move forward and pursue a career that utilized my strengths and talents and had decided to apply to nursing school. This was a very competitive process and required all of our emotional and financial resources. We were not willing to risk the possibility of Mr. Morrison again becoming involved in our personal life goals. After much consideration for what was best for our family, my husband and I decided to settle the case. There were no strings attached and no money exchanged hands.
Mr. Morrison is now publicly claiming that there was some sort of side agreement; we would dismiss the sexual harassment case if he “agreed not to go after them (us).” Once again, the facts will bear that there was no such agreement. There was no deal. Mr. Morrison has been free to file any counterclaim alleging defamation of character or slander. He chose not to.
I have never recanted my statements. What I said was true fifteen years ago and remains the truth today. I appreciate the opportunity to publicly respond to the recent events.

Kelly Summerlin

So, it seems to me that Paul Morrison is not exactly being truthful about this. I have to wonder if he will uphold sexual harrassment laws as the Attorney General of Kansas, and if he would be likely to fire women who do not care for any unwelcome advances.

I was a victim of sexual harrassment back in the '80s. I worked at the OakPark Mall Krigel's jewelry store, and the manager of that store man-handled all of us.

He would swat me on the behind in front of customers or in the backroom and think it was funny. I asked him to stop, and he didn't. So I went to the owners of the chain, Mr. and Mrs. Krigel. They pretty much said that since the manager was such a great salemen, they were not going to do anything to upset him.

So I got moved to the lowest volume store in the chain - at Metro North Mall, and got a huge cut in my commissions.

UPDATE: I forgot to thank Jim C. for sending me this info - Thanks, Jim!

Politics

Damn, I cannot wait for election day. I will vote next week sometime, because Kansas is one of those wonderful states that allow you to go to the courthouse and vote early.

But the commercials - ugh. I hate them. Every time I turn on the radio or television, I'm assaulted by the commercials. And to make it worse, the bulk of the commercials are in reference to a tight race in Missouri - I don't even live there and I have to listen to all the bullshit flung from both sides.

So I have had to watch the Michael J. Fox commercial many times. And whether you want it or not, here is my opinion on that commercial.

1. Michael J. Fox has overdosed on his medication in order to exaggerate his movements - he admits this.

2. The commercial gives the impression that a cure for Parkinson's is only awaiting Claire McCaskill's election to the Senate - and nothing could be further from the truth. It is going to take a lot of years and a lot of good research to develop a cure for Parkinson's. Besides anyone who votes for Claire McCaskill for only one issue is certainly not thinking things through.

3. I feel bad that Michael J. Fox's illness is being used to shill for politicians. And Claire McCaskill has exactly nothing to do with the question of stem cell research in the State of Missouri.

4. The ad is misleading:

Princeton professor Robert P. George, who sits on the president’s bioethics commission, tells National Review Online:

the ads exaggerate the therapeutic potential of embryonic stem cells beyond anything that Michael J. Fox or anyone else has reasonable grounds to believe they can be used to accomplish. Adult stem cells — stem cells that can be obtained harmlessly from umbilical cord blood, bone marrow, fat, and other sources — have actually been used successfully to treat people. They have been used to improve people’s lives. Embryonic stem cells have not helped anyone. No one knows when, if ever, embryonic cells will be used in therapies at all. Indeed, not a single embryonic-stem-cell-based therapy is even in stage one of clinical trials. That is because the tendency of embryonic stem cells to produce tumors makes it unethical to use them in human beings — even in experimental treatments. By contrast, there are more than 1,000 adult-stem-cell-based therapies in clinical trials. In his ads, Michael J. Fox hides these crucial facts, thus creating an appallingly false impression and slandering candidates against whom the ads are directed.”

Dreary day

It's been dank and drippy nearly every day for a week, and I'm ready for some sunshine.

Our hometown soldier, Cpl. David Unger was put to rest today at the National Cemetary at Ft. Leavenworth. John has the details here.

Last night, the evil family Phelps came to protest across the street from Leavenworth High School. The Patriot Guard kept them at bay, thankfully. Many of us held flags provided by the Patriot Guard along 10th Avenue until the wake (held in the high school gym) started, then we gathered along the walk to the gym door to stand watch while the wake went on. I really appreciate the folks in the Patriot Guard - they were happy to have us join thier vigil, and I was honored to do so.

At least 300 people made it to the wake to pay their respects to David. No one ended up paying much attention to the Fred Phelps people - there were only about 6 of them screaming obscene things at everyone around. Fortunately, the revving up of motorcycles drowned out thier evil wishes.

John has a much better description of everything here.

October 16, 2006

I think I'm more balanced than this indicates.

You Are 30% Left Brained, 70% Right Brained
The left side of your brain controls verbal ability, attention to detail, and reasoning.
Left brained people are good at communication and persuading others.
If you're left brained, you are likely good at math and logic.
Your left brain prefers dogs, reading, and quiet.

The right side of your brain is all about creativity and flexibility.
Daring and intuitive, right brained people see the world in their unique way.
If you're right brained, you likely have a talent for creative writing and art.
Your right brain prefers day dreaming, philosophy, and sports.

I'm fed up with so many bloggers

Glenn Reynolds and many others are convinced that the Republicans will lose the House and/or the Senate this November.

Michelle Malking said she wasn't going to vote.

Allah Pundit says he is going to vote for Democrats because he is pissed at Republicans.

They are all idiotic. I have lost all respect for all conservatives who think that not voting or voting for Democrats is a good idea.

I'm sure the Democratic Underground is laughing hilariously.

If the Democrats win the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, a shrill, nasty shrew, will be on the radio and TV every single day. Screaming at those of us who are conservatives that she is going to raise our taxes, probably impeach President Bush, and guarantee that children can be aborted until age 2 if they are not perfect or if they are not minorities. She'll do all she can to ban gun ownership.

God knows what the Democrats would do when it comes to our security. Probably insist that all we have to do to get along with the Islamofascists is to don veils and pay them a dhimmi tax.

Everyone of you need to vote. It is of incredible importance!!

All of us need to vote. Vote for the Republican candidates - yeah, some of them suck, but they don't suck as much as their Democratic counterparts - and then, get involved with the party. Change it from within. If you don't like the candidates, get involved with the behind the scenes annointing of candidates.

Just vote.

Prove Glenn Reynolds, Michelle Malkin and Allah Pundit wrong.

I'm so pissed

Thank God for credit card fraud departments! But, I'm still pissed - somehow, someone got our Debit Card account number and has been spending money all over Mexico.

I'll get the money back from my credit union, but our ATM cards have been cancelled and it will take 10 days to get new ones, I had to file a police report (fortunately, Leavenworth, Kansas has a great police department - no waiting!), and I have to call the credit union tomorrow morning to get our money back.

And this kind of thing really upsets me to no end. You see, I always worry about money - getting bills paid on time, etc., and anytime something happens that might screw up our account, I don't sleep, I fret, I do stupid things like go to the casino to get cash from a credit card to put it in our checking account to cover possible bounced checks - ok, well I have not done that for probably 6 or 7 years, but it was dumb.

Anyway, I'm going to go and attempt to put beautiful Mexican tiles (which were NOT purchased in Mexico - but locally) on my the table John and I made out of an old butcher block that we created a 36 inch square MDF top for - which will have the tile laid on top of that. I've been putting this off for months. It's going to happen - today and tomorrow.

Dogs enhance our lives

As a life-long dog lover, I can testify that a dog can make a difference in anyone's life. They are obedient, cuddly, happy and they are always thrilled to see us. They don't care if we are having a bad hair day or if we gain 5 pounds. They love us unconditionally.

We have two dogs. Houdini and Kiki. Kiki sleeps at the foot of our bed every night and Houdini usually ends up sleeping between John and I - sometimes he even manages to get under the covers.

Now, some people don't like dogs. In fact, an entire religion believes that dogs are 'unclean'. It's even in their 'scriptures'.

Book 010, Number 3811: Abdullah (b. Umar) (Allah be pleased with them) reported: Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) ordered the killing of dogs and we would send (men) in Medina and its corners and we did not spare any dog that we did not kill, so much so that we killed the dog that accompanied the wet she-camel belonging to the people of the desert.
Source

And this presents a problem. Muslim Taxi drivers the world over are refusing to allow blind people with guide dogs in their cabs.

This has been going on for some years, and this discrimination against those who need guide dogs has been occurring all over the world.

In England, a blind woman was refused a cab because of her dog, and when she complained to the owner of the taxi company, she was told that she should learn to respect the Muslim culture.

This has happened in Norway, Australia, Canada, and in the US.

My friend, Wild Thing, has a good post up on this issue. She is also a dog lover.

I think what irks me most about Muslim taxi drivers refusing fares is that they get all pissy at us and act like we are unreasonable for not understanding their 'culture'.

I will say one thing - we Americans love our dogs. Any one of any 'religion' who thinks dogs are unclean are just going to have to get used to all of our unclean dogs - or just go somewhere else. Far away.

Rattlesnake

It was a cool enough day that this guy was a bit sluggish. I was taking a walk and noticed him about 6 feet away - I went no closer and depended on my trusty camera to get as good a picture as possible.

I was not sure what kind of snake it was, but John looked up the markings and it is some kind of rattlesnake native to that area.

We got to meet a lot of great folks and we went to a shooting range out in the desert and I even ran into a rattlesnake!

I have a bunch of pictures. I'll be posting them today as I have time during breaks from work!

Oh, and I almost forgot, we passed the Federal Bureau of Land Management Wild Horse and Burro Adoption Center on our way to the shooting range.

For once, I completely agree with Ann Coulter

Wow, Ann Coulter has a great article - here.

Naturally, about the hypocrisy of the Democrats throwing fits about Foley when they jump to protect Democrats who do bad things - mind you, she does not excuse Foley, neither do I - but, methinks the Democrats doth protest too much.

Here is just a little excerpt:

In 1983, Democratic congressman Gerry Studds was found to have sexually propositioned House pages and actually buggered a 17-year-old male page whom he took on a trip to Portugal. The 46-year-old Studds indignantly attacked those who criticized him for what he called a "mutually voluntary, private relationship between adults." ..... . . . . . . .

Washington Post columnist Colman McCarthy referred to Studds' affair with a teenage page as "a brief consenting homosexual relationship" and denounced Studds' detractors for engaging in a "witch-hunt" against gays: "New England witch trials belong to the past, or so it is thought. This summer on Cape Cod, the reputation of Rep. Gerry Studds was burned at the stake by a large number of his constituents determined to torch the congressman for his private life."

.

Apparently, in DC, the age of consent is 16, by the way.

If you ask me, anyone younger than 21 should be off limits for all adults.

Again, I'm no fan of Dennis Hastert. But demanding he resign from Congress is a bit much.

And John had a lot to say about this on the day the news came out - so it would be a good idea to go read his post, too.

Posted by Beth at 6:53 PM

I really hate this crap

So, this horrid excuse for a man, Congressman Foley, has quit the Congress - and rightly so. But now, the leftists are running around claiming that it is the Republican leadership's fault!?! That Denny Hastert (and I am absolutely no fan of him) should have 'investigated' Foley long ago and found him out - ummmm - are the Democrats saying that Foley should have been wiretapped - his instant messages discovered by investigators?

Hmmmmmm.

That just sounds so much like the very thing that the Democrats claim they don't want done to terrorist suspects.

Do you get my drift? Does the word hypocrisy come to mind?

I have to go get a cup of coffee - talk among yourselves. I'll be back later.

The Reverend Jesse Jackson

I almost forgot to mention that the Reverend Jesse Jackson was slumming it on Friday - he was on the same Southwest Airlines flight I was on from Detroit to Chicago.

I'm wondering why he hasn't blackmailed some company into giving his Rainbow Coalition money or face boycotts? Didn't he have his own plane at some point?

It was almost sad - he had no entourage, when he got off the plane, he just wandered around the Midway Airport, and acted like he was waiting for admirers to come and fawn at his feet - only no one did.

Okay, back to blogging!

My heart is breaking over the murder of 3 Amish schoolgirls by a deranged milk truck driver who committed suicide at a one room schoolhouse in Lancaster County, PA.

And there are another 7 little girls who have been shot. Some of them in the head.

I've been to Lancaster County 4 times for work. It is beautiful, beautiful country. I've never seen a more bucolic area.

The man who killed the little girls was 32 years old. He let the boys and the women with children go, then he blocked all the exits to the building tied the little girls (ages 6 to 13) to each other.

The Amish are hard working, Godly people. They want to live apart from modern things, and by and large they do. But now, their lives have been crushed by some wacko who left suicide notes at his home before leaving to find his victims.

There is enough similarity between this and the murder of a high school girl in Colorado to believe this is a copy-cat crime.

And the Amish would have never heard of the Colorado incident - no TV.

Personally, I don't understand why at least one of the adult women didn't stay and try to save the girls. Perhaps it is cultural - I'm pretty sure that Amish women are not given to being forward enough to fight a killer. I could be wrong, and I'm sure we will find out.
