Gah - Clinton - get out of politics, already
Bill Clinton is such an ass. His behaviour should be an embarrassment to Democrats - oh, wait - I almost forgot about Al Gore and Howard Dean.
Grown men should have better control of their emotions. Especially men who have been US President. And believe me, Clinton made no friends whatsoever on the right by calling us names.
Maybe it was calculated to make Hillary look sane in comparison!!!

Oatmeal - good for the body
Last March, when I went in for my annual checkup, my cholesterol was high. Really high. It was about 290. And even though my HDL was very high (a good thing), it was not high enough to make up for the very high LDL.
The doctor wanted me to take zocor for it, but after reading all the warnings for the stuff, I thought I'd try eating oatmeal every day instead.
So I did. In fact, I now love the stuff - and I grew up hating it.
I went in for blood tests and followup stuff earlier this month. The doctor assumed my cholesterol would still be high, so he gave me a prescription for zocor. Rather than argue with him, I just didn't say anything.
I just looked at the results of my lipid tests and found that my cholesterol is down - way down - to 195. And my HDL is 69 (which is really, really good) and my triglycerides are normal, and my risk of cardiovascular disease from high cholesterol is now - low.
And the only thing I changed was eating oatmeal for breakfast. It doesn't seem to matter if it is instant or steel-cut or semi-instant - it worked.
So, my friends, develop a taste for Oatmeal. You will be healthier for it.

Osama bin Laden dead?
A French newspaper is reporting that Saudi Arabia believes that Osama bin Laden is dead.
Certainly, I want this to be true, but I'm looking for some corroborating reports on this one.
If it is true, the Democrats can just quit bitching about bin Laden, and that would indeed be less cacophony in my ears!
Beth, of Yeah, Right, Whatever, has more details.

This has become even more ridicuous than the cartoon outcry
Just like spoiled 2-year-old children, the uneducated and extremely ignorant Islamofascists of the world are throwing multiple tantrums over a speech that Good Pope Benedict made.
This is ridiculous. They are denying their own history when they pretend that Islam was not spread by the sword. That was what the Crusades were all about - recovering the lands and the people who had been taken over by the Muslims.
They are even threatening war. (As if they had not already started one!)
And the MSM is responsible for much of this. Some reporter, somewhere, pinpointed just a few words from a lengthy, scholarly speech and published only them as if they were the words of Pope Benedict. The freaking media needs uproar to be happy, and this time, they caused it.
And it took until Friday for the 'outrage' to come out because the Muslims didn't know about the speech until they went to their mosques to pray.
So there is all this Arab anger. And their 'religious' leaders encourage it so the people will forget about their miserable lives. Muslims are brought together by hatred of the non-Islamic world.
And the thing is this - they are pissed off because the Pope intimated that violence to force people to convert to a religion is unreasonable, and that religion must be reasonable because we have a reasonable God.
We do not believe that God is capricious. He is reasonable.
So, the people who claim to speak for all of Islam decide that is a terrible offence against them. And in their anger, they commit violence - and apparently they are so blind as to not see the irony of that.
They cannot prove that Islam is not violent by being violent. Yet, this is what they threaten - violence.
Please, I know there are Muslims out there, somewhere, who do not want this violence, this terrorism. Why are they not speaking up? Why are they not apologizing for the behaviour of the so-called Arab Street?
Why, when some incredible act of terrorism occurs in their name do they only worry about a backlash against muslims? Why do they not condemn and apologize for the actions of their brothers?
Are they so afraid of the extremists that they cannot speak themselves? Or do they silently agree with the extremists? Are they secretly thrilled everytime a Jewish or Christian head is severed by the Islamic terrorists?
And you know, it won't matter what the Pope does or says. They just want an excuse to riot and demonstrate their absolute hatred for us.

Naturally, the anti-Catholic New York Times Demands the Pope apologize
Go read this unsigned New York Times editorial and then come back here.
I'll wait.
Now, aside from the fact that the editorial writer obviously did not read the Pope's entire speech, just where does he/she get off on bitching about Pope Benedict's well-reasoned words? Pope Benedict, has never, ever called for a holy war;, never ever, insisted that someone must die because of a perceived insult to Catholicism, and has never, ever insinuated that by running off and dying while killing the enemies of Catholicism will get you 72 virgins in heaven.
But the New York Times is angry at the Pope for "sowing pain".
When was the last time the New York Times took to task all the Muslims throughout the world who want to kill or force to submit all of us who are Christians?
For more, go to Jihad Watch.
Update: Check out Captain's Quarters, too!
And also read DeoOmnisGloria.com
And this MySpace entry.
UPDATE the Second: Rod Dreher has the best fisking of the New York Times editorial here.

Pope Benedict
Ya know, I wasn't too sure about this Pope Benedict when he was elected, but now I can say, I am impressed.
I'm so impressed, I might even start going back to church, if this good pope is going to defend my faith instead of pander to the political correctness of these times and pretend that all religions are equally good.
He (Pope Benedict) quoted from a little-known medieval text recording debates between a Byzantine emperor and an educated Persian. The Pope recalled that the emperor had told his adversary: "Show me just what Muhammad brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached."SourceBenedict acknowledged the "startling brusqueness" of the remark, but went on to endorse fully the view that "spreading the faith through violence is something unreasonable".
The Pope said this (just one paragraph from a long speech)
In the seventh conversation edited by Professor Khoury, the emperor touches on the theme of the holy war. The emperor must have known that surah 2, 256 reads: "There is no compulsion in religion". According to the experts, this is one of the suras of the early period, when Mohammed was still powerless and under threat. But naturally the emperor also knew the instructions, developed later and recorded in the Qur'an, concerning holy war. Without descending to details, such as the difference in treatment accorded to those who have the "Book" and the "infidels", he addresses his interlocutor with a startling brusqueness on the central question about the relationship between religion and violence in general, saying: "Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached". The emperor, after having expressed himself so forcefully, goes on to explain in detail the reasons why spreading the faith through violence is something unreasonable. Violence is incompatible with the nature of God and the nature of the soul. "God", he says, "is not pleased by blood - and not acting reasonably is contrary to God's nature. Faith is born of the soul, not the body. Whoever would lead someone to faith needs the ability to speak well and to reason properly, without violence and threats... To convince a reasonable soul, one does not need a strong arm, or weapons of any kind, or any other means of threatening a person with death...".Source
I will bet anything that very few of the reporters and none of the upset Muslims bothered to read the entire text of the speech. It is a marvelous speech, addressing the value of teaching theology in universities. I recommend it heartily. Pope Benedict is truly a brilliant man.
Naturally, the uneducated Muslim crowds, urged on by self-appointed mullahs and imams and what-have-you, are rioting and burning pictures of Good Pope Benedict and demanding a personal apology. Why Pope Benedict should apologize for recognizing the elephant in the room is beyond reason.
And naturally, they are comparing the Pope to Hitler and Mussolini.
I believe that Pope Benedict is surely the man we need as head of the Catholic Church in these times of turmoil caused by the Islamofascists of the world.
Michelle Malkin also supports the Pope. This is one issue I agree with Michelle on wholeheartedly.

Shudder
So, there is this crazy-ass CAIR VP who told a bunch of students that if Jesus was here, He would be a Muslim.
That is one of the most insulting statements to my religion (Catholicism) that I have ever heard.
But guess what - I'm not going to throw stones at embassies or bomb anyone or start a riot because this man is truly being blasphemous when he says something like that. But I am going to say that the Muslims need to just stop. Don't even compare Islam to Christianity. There is nothing at all in common with the two religions.
Nothing.
How can I prove that?
Well, for one, I'm an adult woman who has a clitoris. Unlike an estimated 100 million Muslim women who do not.
We don't believe in slavery. Islam does.
It's unbelievably insulting. It really does horrify me.
And then, there is Rosie, the scary token lesbian on the View (which I have never watched and never will watch and I can't figure out why anyone else would watch it!.)
Rosie believes that "radical Christianity is just as threatening as radical Islam".
Right.

Back on the road again
I have actually been here at home for most of July and August. But I'm back to traveling again. I hate being away from home, but work is a whole lot more fun when I'm working with clients directly. So, I have mixed feelings about the travel.
And, this is the first time I've flown since the British discovered the plot to crash planes with some kind of liquid, so I need to double check that I'm not carrying anything that is not allowed in my laptop backpack. I'll check my suitcase, as usual.
And I guess I will be on the lookout for Middle Eastern Men carrying phone books on board.
I just checked the TSA's guidelines on clothing, etc., and they actually want women to *not* wear underwire bras.
Other Tips Place all liquids, gels and items with similar consistency in your checked baggage. Items sich as lotions, toothpastes, shampoos and conditioners are not allowed in carry-on baggage. For more information on this security procedure, please read our update to the prohibited items list.SourceAvoid wearing clothing, jewelry or other accessories that contain metal when traveling through the security checkpoints:
Heavy jewelry (including pins, necklaces, bracelets, rings, watches, earrings, body piercings, cuff links, lanyards or bolo ties)
Clothing with metal buttons, snaps or studs
Metal hair barrettes or other hair decoration
Belt buckles
Under-wire bras
Hidden items such as body piercings may result in your being directed to additional screening for a pat-down inspection. If selected for additional screening, you may ask to remove your body piercing in private as an alternative to the pat-down search.
Take metal items such as keys, loose change, mobile phones, pagers, and personal data assistants (PDAs) out of your pockets.
Place heavy jewelry and other metal items in your carry-on baggage or in plastic bags if they are offered, until you clear security.
Pack all your coats and jackets in your baggage when possible. All coats and jackets must go through the X-ray machine for inspection. These include, but are not limited to, trench coats, heavy winter coats, suit jackets, sport coats and blazers. If you choose to wear an outer coat or jacket to the checkpoint, you will need to either place it in your carry-on or put it in the bin that is provided for you
That's not a good thing for me! Do I go braless? I don't own a non-underwire bra, because they don't do a thing for me!
I guess I'll just get screened everytime, either that, or I'll take my bra off and put it thru the machine at security and then put it back on. Only that might get me in trouble. :)

Unbelievable Europeans
When I was growing up, people remembered World War II. Every one's dad had been in the military during the war. I had uncles who were fighter pilots in the Pacific. My dad, as most in the military, never saw combat - he was in Hawaii doing Quartermaster stuff during WWII.
We were all very aware of the evils of Nazism and how the Nazi dream was to rid the world of Jews. (and Gypsies and Catholics, and gay people and imperfect people).
But I suppose it has been long enough that most people who were in WWII are dead or dying, and there are very few Holocaust survivors still alive to remind us what happened.
So, I suppose it was bound to happen - for some unGodly reason, there are people all over the world who are turning into anti-Semetic, evil, stupid people.
Even a bunch of architects.
I always thought that architecture was an art. I always thought that artists were more accepting of all people because they tend to be a bit on the different side themselves.
Boy, was I wrong. This lovely group of architects has demanded that an architectural firm in Israel be banned from a biennial competition. Darleenhas all the details.
Folks, please do not hide your heads in the sand and ignore the new anti-semitism that is springing forth all over the world. This is the path to hell, and we have to stop it.

Boobie BLogging
In the Cotillion email group, we have been discussing Boobie Blogging - certain political vlogs where the expose' is not from the hard hitting politcal analysis, but from the dress (or lack thereof) of the vlogger.
Somewhere in the discussion, CalTechGirl sent us all a link to get our boobs named.
So, from now on, my boobs are named:

Just what are these kids being taught?
Okay. I know, I know, I know.
Competitive sports teaches kids good sportsmanship.
That's the excuse adults everywhere give for encouraging their children to be involved in sports all the time.
Many Americans think that sports are more important than anything else when it comes to raising a boy.
Pop Warner football has become very popular in the 11 to 13 age group.
Okay, fine - but what are we teaching kids when a 33 year old assistant coach runs out on the field and knocks a player from the opposing team onto the ground from behind?
Go here. Watch the video. And parents, be sure that you can control yourselves and your coaches when you are at your kids' games, m'kay?

Buying stuff
I like buying stuff on the Internet. I can shop at my leisure and get reviews on stuff and check prices. I have, however, been something of a sucker when it comes to those club things - you know what I mean. Book of the month, Cookbook of the Month, Wine of the Month, Cheese of the Month, Flower of the Month - hmm, I wonder if there is a Chocolate of the Month Club?
Anyway, my experience has been that I'll join one of these clubs with the intention of just getting the special deal, but I end up in the club forever.
I never get around to canceling anything.
That's why I have about 100 cookbooks. Everytime another one is delivered, that I forgot to go on line to tell them I don't want it. I think," I have to write them a letter and cancel this", but then I see how many points I have that I can buy other cookbooks with, and I think, "well, heck. I should use these up first, then I'll cancel" and then I'll find something really cool - usually a gadget, but the points don't apply to gadgets, but I get it anyway and before I know it, another cookbook is at the door because I once again forgot to log into the website and check the "don't send me anything this month or next month" buttons.
Gah.
Anyway, I am ready to buy some of this Bare Minerals Makeup. The Ladies of the Cotillion all concur that it is wonderful stuff.
This is my concern, though - I like the kit that has everything you could possibly want, but that fine print - - - I don't want to join a club. If you order the kit, they automatically enroll you in this makeup club. Gad, I don't wear makeup at all right now - I don't want to be stuck getting it for the rest of my life!
Yes, I know, you can cancel anytime.
But, remember, I never get around to canceling anything! Ever. Well, hardly ever.
So, I sit here and stew - to buy or not to buy - to get the really neat deal or to suck it up and pay full price for everything to avoid being sucked into yet another club.
And where is there a Chocolate Club I can sign up for???

Such sad, sad news
Steve Irwin died today. CalTechGirl has the details.
I really liked that guy. He loved animals of all kinds, and he really did teach the world about them.
I hope that his young children will always know how well-loved their daddy was.

If you want a good laugh
Go to Overheard in New York
Here is an example:
Man: I just don't get it! Just last night you were complaining about how you never try anything new, but you feel like you should.
Woman: Ok, well ordering the roast duck is a little different than a threesome, Tim.
