New Orleans

I do love New Orleans. I have had the opportunity to visit there for work several times both before and after Katrina. I have probably spent a total of 5 weeks there in the past couple of years.

The folks I work with down there told me some stories of the flooding that were pretty darn scary - but they are all still in New Orleans, still working, only now they are rebuilding their homes and their neighbor's homes.

New Orleans has the best food on earth, do doubt about it! I love to sit at a table at one of the French Quarter restaurants and have a sazerac or a refreshing mint julep, and then order an oyster po'boy with a nice remoulade. Double yum!

E.M., the American Princess has a diary of a recent trip she made to New Orleans. It is far better than anything I could write, so please, go read the first installment of her Katrina Travel Diary.

Mars and Venus?

Men and Women are Different. But, I agree with Fausta - we are not from different planets. Do yourself a favor and go read Fausta's post on why life and love is tougher on men these days than on women - between Oprah, Sex and the City and Seventeen Magazine - well - go read it all !!!

This beeaaatch Biatch Watch thingie

First of all, I bow to the magnificence that is Annika!. Goodness, that woman can write a great snark!!

Secondly, I have learned that my spelling of Beeeaaaatch is incorrect - so I have changed it to Biatch Watch.

And, you know, I don't have any clue as to who the next Beatch will be - it's pretty hard to compete with perfect Jackie!

Possible new feature

After reading bits and pieces of this woman's blog (she calls it her bildungsroman which translates to picture novel - fiction???), and seeing what MVRWC and Kate has to say about her, I decided to start a new feature here on She Who Will Be Obeyed.

A Beeeaaatch Watch.

And the Beeeaaatch of the Week is (drum roll, please)
The Bildungsroman of Jacqueline Mackie Paisley Passey

Debbie Schlussel may have gone a little too far

Apparently, Ms. Debbie has made all kinds of false accusations about plagiarism, etc., about this organization, Northeast Intelligence Network.

I hope that these folks will take legal action, seems they might have the backing to do so.

And if they don't - I still have that form from the Michigan Bar association sitting here on my desk . . .

You know, if Ms. Schlussel spent 1/10th as much time actually checking her facts before spouting off as she does in pillorying anyone who disagrees with her in the slightest or who noticed the same stuff in the news, she might actually be able to report knowledgeably on terrorism. But I wouldn't hold my breath on Debbie suddenly becoming rational in the face of criticism.

Bye Bye Estee Lauder

One of the Estee Lauder boutique-type of brands, MAC, features an ad on their web site where Sandra Bernhardt calls Republican women thin-lipped bitches (among other things).

Cotillionite, Chez Diva, has more, including a link to the ad in question.

Sigh. When will these companies ever learn?

Grow up, bloggerettes!

One of my very favorite writers ever, Helen, has been unjustly pilloried by Michelle Malkin. Michelle called her a moonbat for writing this post.

Now, I may not agree with everything that Helen says(mostly her feelings about Lebanon and Blair), but I do agree with her so far as her sadness that travel has become so difficult because of evil. As a frequent traveler, I am not thrilled that the next time I go to the UK, I can't carry on my laptop, my books, my water or my mp3 player. Like Helen, I am concerned about my belongings making it to the other end without being stolen.

But Helen has every damn right to write what she feels. And she is reasonable and sane in her post.

Michelle Malkin, on the other hand, is very unreasonable these days. She has jumped the shark, as far as I am concerned.

When Malkin first started blogging, she was reasoned and smart. But the more attention she gets in the blogosphere, the more shrill and abrasive she becomes. And what is very upsetting, as one of my dear Cotillion friends said, is that Michelle has been the victim of the very same kind of nastiness that she has foisted upon dear Helen. And yeah, I have always thought of Helen as Dear Helen.

Michelle Malkin owes Helen an apology. A big one. And until Helen gets an acceptable apology from Michelle, Michelle is off of my blogroll.

One more thing - Zoloft can be your friend. It's mine and keeps me from flying off the handle - maybe it could help others in the blogosphere!

For a much better post on the same subject, go see dear Cassandra.

Where are the lefties?

A huge terrorist plot is discovered by the Brits, and at this writing - 9:05 am, Central Daylight Time, The Daily Kos has nothing to say about terrorism, the Huffington Post has nothing to say about terrorism, and I don't even want to go to the DU - every time I do, my day is totally poisoned.

They are still writing about how they beat Joe Lieberman in Connecticut.

The Brits save thousands of travelers, and the leftist blogs ignore it.

Damn

I'm sure you are all aware of the new plot that our enemy has dreamed up - blowing up airlines on the way from the UK to the USA.

So, what runs through your mind when you heard of this latest, hopefully foiled, plot?

1.The MM/GS (Michael Moore/George Soros)Leftists are going to blame Karl Rove and claim it is all a made-up lie to help President Bush in the polls.2. Good thing I don't wear makeup - mascara and liquid makeup and, in fact, anything liquid, can no longer be in your carry-on luggage.

3. I wonder how the Democrats in Connecticut feel now.

4. Will anyone on the left finally realize that this is a War, and we cannot stay out of it?

5. I don't want to be on any plane with anyone named Mohammed!

6. Now we won't be able to carry on our Starbucks Coffee!

7. This is what went through the Armorer's mind!

8. Has this changed Ariana Huffinpuff's mind about a terror threat?

This is a fun exercise

Go over to Caltech Girl's place and add a couple of paragraphs to the story she started - it is Two Paragraph Tuesday.

This is the first time I've attempted something like this, and I found it to be fun, because you can turn the story around or do anything you want with it - or even make Bulwer-like sentences. (Every year I intend to enter the Bulwer Litton bad sentence contest, but I always forget).

Blogging Law Professors

What a life it must be to teach law! Apparently, teaching law allows for enough time to become an expert in everything. At least, that is what law professors think.

For example, Ann Althouse, one of the Group of Really Cool Law Professors Who Blog, has a lot to say about fat people:

I agree that it's a mystery, but you can extract one truth: if you're still fat, you need to eat less. It doesn't matter why other people don't get fat when they seem to eat the same thing. Look at your own situation. If you're still fat, cut down. Eat less, and weigh yourself. Do it every day for the rest of your life. There's nothing wrong with you. It's just the natural impulse that allowed your ancestors to survive through famines. You have a healthy urge and a healthy body, but in times of affluence, that will make you fat. You've got to go against your nature and eat less. Until you're not fat any more. Or, as Roseann Barr once said: "Just be fat and shut up."

Speaking for myself, this is what I say to Ann and the other gang of law professor bloggers:

I agree that it's a mystery, but you can extract one truth: if you're a lawyer, and you are talking about anything outside of the law, you don't know what you are talking about, you need to shut up. It doesn't matter that you have a blog and other people have blogs when they seem to say the same thing. Look at your own situation. If you're still a law professor, shut up. Shut up and think before speaking/writing. Do it every day for the rest of your life. There's nothing wrong with you. It's just the natural impulse that allowed your ancestors (sharks) to survive. You have a healthy urge and a healthy body, but in times of affluence, that will make you talk out your ass. You've got to go against your nature and talk/write less. Until you're not a lawyer any more. Or, as Roseann Barr once said: "Just shut up."

Reutergate

In case you are as oblivious to the news as I have been for the last week, I just discovered that a photographer for Reuters has been playing with photoshop.

Beth at MVRWC and LindaSog at Something ... and Half of Something both have good background info on this new scam by Reuters.

Reuters has now admitted it is a photoshopped picture, and has an advisory statement admitting it was photoshopped and to remove the image.

Personally, I was struck by their advisory statement:

PICTURE KILL FOR LBN20 TRANSMITTED AT APPROXIMATELY 1408GMT ON AUGUST 5, 2006. PHOTO EDITING SOFTWARE WAS IMPROPERLY USED ON THIS IMAGE. A CORRECTED VERSION WILL IMMEDIATELY FOLLOW THIS ADVISORY. PLEASE REMOVE THE IMAGE FROM YOUR SYSTEMS. WE ARE SORRY FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE. REUTERS LBN20 Smoke billows from burning buildings destroyed during an overnight Israeli air raid on Beirut's suburbs August 5, 2006. Many buildings were flattened during the attack. REUTERS/Adnan Hajj (LEBANON) REUTERS NEWS PICTURES
First of all it says: PHOTO EDITING SOFTWARE WAS IMPROPERLY USED ON THIS IMAGE Does that mean that Reuters believes there is a proper way to edit news pictures with photo editing software? Secondly, it says - PLEASE REMOVE IMAGE FROM YOUR SYSTEMS I suppose that is to remove all evidence of their faking pics! And lastly, I can't wait to see the 'corrected picture' Wanna bet there will still be photoshopping in it? Only this time - properly used!
