Home Improvements
Well, I'm home until tomorrow at noon. The prednisone has gotten rid of most of my hives and rashes, but it makes me feel icky.
Today, I am cutting and placing all the baseboards for the kitchen - John and I bought a cool little air compressor with a brad gun, so I need to figure out how to use it.
So far, I have cut all the baseboards with my compound miter saw - what a handy piece of machinery that is!
It will get a lot more difficult to figure out how to cut the crown mouldings. Then, when John gets home after doing all sorts of stuff for the Heart Walk (John is ever so much more charitable than I am!), I hope that he can deal with the brad (is that what they are called? Little nails - like finishing nails, really) gun.

John? And sharp, pointy objects driven with force?! John?
C'mon Beth- sheesh. You don't need that red sticky stuff all over your new kitchen... ;)

SWWBO sez, why d'you think she painted the kitchen the same color as her blogbackground color...?

Consider cutting the crown by hand with a coping saw. You can install two sides of a room with square flush ends and then "cope" the profile of the crown onto/into the ends of the other two sections.
If you insist on using the miter saw, measure twice and cut once...and remember that if your walls aren't square and plumb you'll probably need plenty of caulk (a carpenters best friend.)
Good luck

Tools are a great part of DIY projects ;-) I knew you'd picked a good color for the walls, Beth!!!!

No noxious adhesives, but you broke out in itchy nasties anyway? Maybe you stirred up some old insecticides or somethin'. There's just an atom or two difference between them, and the ones designed to go after humans.
Being kinda sensitive about the state of my liver, I despise all organophosphate poisons, be they intended for insects, humans, or anything in-between.
The chlorinated hydrocarbons, like DDT, always seemed less nasty to me.
Anyway, I get all my neurotoxins from Anheuser-Busch.

Virgil is right. You need to cope the crown mouldings to get a professional fit. Actually it's good to cope the baseboards too. If you don't know what coping is do a net search. I'm sure there's some good web-sites that will explain the process, but it's very simple. You'll still get to use your miter saw, but you'll need a coping saw to finish the cut (they are very cheap hand tools).

Oh, and don't forget; the coping saw cuts on the *pull* stroke. You want the teeth pointing towards you.
