Debbie Schlussel - still an idiot
Yesterday, Debbie Schlussel once again decided that the Liberty Eagle Pin sold at the Library of Congress gift shop is a Mexican Eagle.
Now, I can see where someone with a perception problem might, maybe think that this:

is equal to this:

if you ignore the cactus, the snake, the wing position, etc.
However, now Debbie seems to think that this:

equals this:

?????????????????????
That is a lot like thinking that this woman:
Link to Debbie Schlussel's image was deleted due to threat of copyright lawsuit. To see Debbie's pictures, go to this google link.
is the same as this woman:

They are both blonde, but . . .
When I saw Debbie's post yesterday, I left this comment:
Debbie,
I am just as disgusted with illegal immigration as you are - however, you need to get your eyes checked - the eagle pin looks nothing like the eagles on the flags you are showing. You are really stretching the limits of imagination to think they are the same pin.Oh, and as far as the swastika goes - it's an evil, evil symbol now, but the Nazis stole it from the Native American Indians who used that symbol for hundreds of years before Hitler was born.
Still doesn't make it right to use it, but I think being educated about such thinks makes one more believable to the world.
Naturally, my comment never got published. She seems to think that I am an extreme right-winger, but then, she has a history of getting confused.
Misha has also discovered this post of Debbie's and has some fine commentary about it.

It is about as different as the Mexican flag & the US flag. Clear to the discerning eye!

Snerk. Lazy this morning, are we? It's not nice to pick on the handicapped, dear.
She can't help herself.

what a bird brain

I agree with John. As my mother always said, those that ride the short bus are not funny to pick on no matter how satisfying it might be.
;o)

Again with that pin? It should be alarming to the Debs readers that she seems incapable of making simple changes in thought.
"Oh, okay"
How hard is a .03 second revelation? The fact that she sticks ruthlessly to an error is ridiculous.
Posted by: pam at May 2, 2006 10:16 AM
It might just be me, but doesn't the "Liberty Eagle" the Library of Congress is selling look more like the old Roman Eagle?
... which was subsequently co-opted by the Nazis?
I don't know. But I think the image of the eagle has been used by so many and sundry parties that it's slightly ridiculous to start a blogwar over.
Posted by: brogonzo at May 2, 2006 10:16 AM
Ah, Brogonzo - you're missing the point.
This is simply a new campaign in the *existing* blogwar.
It's a fixing attack in support of Misha's Main Effort, intended to keep the prey distracted and running around trying to plug all the holes in her dikes(down, nasty-minded people, if you think like you just thought, DS will *know* and threaten us with a defamation lawsuit).
Besides, it's a guilty pleasure, picking on her this way and keeps SWWBO from pulling one wing from flies in order to watch them fly in circles.
And does less damage to nature.
Posted by: John of Argghhh! at May 2, 2006 10:26 AM
Oh, and let's not leave the French out of those who copied the Romans!
Posted by: John of Argghhh! at May 2, 2006 10:29 AM
Really, there are only so many ways one can sculpt an eagle - Debbie is just being silly.
Posted by: Beth Donovan at May 2, 2006 10:32 AM
It really is an eagle??? And all along I thought it was a chicken smoking some peyote.
Posted by: Boquisucio at May 2, 2006 10:32 AM
Actually the swastika is a very ancient symbol used by many civilizations and groups.
And yes Debbie needs an eye check.
Posted by: RobC at May 2, 2006 10:58 AM
Debbie Schlussel, first, needs to have her eyes checked. Second, she needs to get over herself importance.
Posted by: keewee at May 2, 2006 11:12 AM
C'mon, now Keewee! *All* bloggers suffer from the last. What else prompts us to hang out the shingle?
It ain't the money, that's for sure!
Posted by: John of Argghhh! at May 2, 2006 11:14 AM
Geez - she's as bad as the moonbats from the far left. Any image of an eagle looks like any other, at the end of the day. The Debster needs to find some new toys to play with, as well as a new set of contacts.

Actually, I'm a bit glad, you took the picture of Crazy Debbie off your site. It might frighten young children or some of your more sensitive readers. ;)
Posted by: Jody at May 2, 2006 11:22 AM
The way I read it is that Tits on a Chair is now claiming that ALL eagles are "Mexican Eagles."
If she decides that they are, of course.
I'm trying to come up with something profoundly insulting to say about her obvious lack of intelligence, but I can't think of a group that is deserving of the grievious insult of being associated with her.
Yes, that does include protozoa.
Posted by: Misha I at May 2, 2006 11:36 AM
You are absolutely right about the eagles in question. I think the pin is a badly rendered eagle, but that does not make it a Mexican eagle.
You were only partially right about the swastika. It actually predates the Egyptian ankh and originated in Mesopotamia as a sanskrit symbol. Either way, though, you have her on point.

1) Schlussel calling someone else far right wing? Oh, that's classic.
2) Can I get a warning the next time we sally forth in blogwar? Digging trench lines and filing digital sandbags takes a might of time.

No worries, Ry. All her base, are belong to us!
Posted by: John of Argghhh!!! at May 2, 2006 2:05 PM
Gee, it's beginning to sound like she's cyber stalking you. I wonder if you should file some papers just in case you need a record later.

Anything that gives Deb a chance to exhibit her ignorance and stupidity always makes my day. About the swastika, a little digging around would uncover the fact that pre-ww2 the Finnish air force used the swastika as the emblem on their aircraft, too. Not that it helped them much, but stupid being what it is it probably confused the living daylights out of the soviets when the Nazis invaded. I can hear it now, "Wait, we beat them already!" as the Nazis headed East in a big hurry.

I think it was Rush Limbaugh that said it, if a person insists in making a fool of his/her self, get out of the way.

I hate to be a nitpicker, but the swastika is MUCH older than the Native Americans. In fact, according to http://www.symbols.com/encyclopedia/15/151.html it's at least 3000 years old.

I *love* how this post has brought out the Swastika-nerds!
Who knew there were so many!
Hee!
And that is *not* meant in a mean way, either. Damn Nazi's ruined a very powerful symbol, bassids.
For people with the "clueless gene" this comment is supportive of the swastika as a long-used by many peoples symbol, and a lamentation that the Nazis so tarnished it.
Posted by: John of Argghhh! at May 2, 2006 7:22 PM
Philosopher: true, but the Native Americans definitely pre-dated the NSDAP. :)
And -as I'm sure John knows- the 45th Infantry Division (from New Mexico, if memory serves) original shoulder patch featured a swastika as part of the Native American theme they used in the heraldry for that division.
It was changed (very quickly) at the start of WW2.
I suppose this means all those Southwest American vets are now Mexi-Nazi swine, according to the silicon on a stool...
Heh.

Well, to be honest, I did know that the swastika has been used in one place or another for 3000 years or more - but I was trying to get someone like Debbie Schlussel to understand, and I thought I should make the comment as short and as sweet as possible so she could understant the gist of what I meant.

Heh. I remember the time when a bunch of Buddhists were putting swastikas on cemetery vaults in OC. Knee jerk PC warriors would sneak in during the night an destroy them. Living next to a cemetery was WEIRD.

beth, nice little post. i'm so jealous yo got a threat of a lawsuit. i lie cheat and steal my ass off! all to no avail.
philospher. the native americans were here 3000 years ago. the land bridge disappeared around 12k years ago.
chicken smoking a cigar?! that's good.

All of you people have ignored the serious question of the handedness of the swastika. Does it make a difference if the end-thingies point clockwise or counterclockwise? If so, which way is good, and which evil? Does this mean the Nazi flag was good, viewed from one side, and evil, viewed from the other side by transmitted light?

Caught wind of this site through Misha. I would be very interested to know what happens as a result of your call to the Michigan Bar Association. Be sure and post something on the Rott or get Misha to track back. This could be fun.

Cupid Stunt's latest post has to be the most pathetic, obvious attempt at attention getting that I've ever read.
Get 'er, Beth. Get her so bad that she actually has to wear one of those (not very attractive) AMERICAN EAGLE pins through her nose.
Posted by: Carrie at May 3, 2006 8:19 AM
If I remember my swastika trivia correctly, the big Nazi innovation on the symbol was to rotate it 45 degrees so that it was sitting on a point, rather than on one of the legs.
