Immigration

Immigration is the hot topic in the news of late. I can remember it being the hot topic some years ago, too. I believe it was during the Clinton years, but it may have been earlier. I remember that people were all upset about Hatians and Cubans coming here illegally - and that Clinton wanted to send them all back - oh, right - it was Clinton - remember the little Cuban kid they took at gunpoint from his family and gave to Castro? Yes, yes, lovely, wasn't that?

Anyway, there are thousands and thousands and thousands of people streaming across our Southern Border - and I am totally disgusted that Republicans (and the President) are bending over backwards to let them keep coming in.

I know, I know - there are all kinds of claims that immigrants only take jobs that no one else wants. Really? What about all the good-paying construction jobs that used to be available? Well, they are now not-so-good paying jobs taken by illegal aliens who will work for a lot less money than Americans. Contractors are cheating the government of tax money, cheating the illegal aliens of workman's compensation coverage, Social Security coverage, health coverage and believe me, they are not charging the consumer any less - they pocket the extra money. RIch people may think that illegals are taking jobs that US Citizens do not want - but what the hell do they know?

I have cleaned houses before - it was a good way to earn money when I was first divorced and it was a better way to network with other women - one of whom gave me a recommendation to an entry level job with Sprint - and which enabled me to end up doing the very technical job I do now.

I don't know what the solution is - one thing that comes to mind is to simply be American Imperialists and make Mexico part of the USA and the Mexican states can each become their own state.

I know - don't hit me! But, that would be a big step towards getting rid of their corrupted government, their state-owned oil company and bringing capitalism and education to the Latino people there.

I would much prefer that our habits rub off on Mexican people than their habits rub off on us. (I am referring to the habit of government corruption). And the natural resources of Mexico would be a wonderful addition to the USA.

OK - it is a dumb solution, but someone give me a better one.

Here's what I say: All that cool tech we've put into the DMZ in Korea? Let's use it along the SW border of the US. Let's use the SW border of the US as a training and testing ground for UAV and soldiers in interdiction tactics. Let's demand SSN when you enroll your children in school or recieve social benefits so it can be checked in a computer data base and when something fishy shows up that name gets tagged and internal INS goes out to do their job. Let's build a freakin' wall and protect it, beef up the Coast Guard in the Gulf of MExico and on the southern California coast. Let's up the immigration caps by a factor of ten(last time they were adjusted was 1912 I think, time for an adjustment), have an easy access point where all legal immigration comes thru with a six week screening/training/education class, but anyone overstaying their visa or border crashingwe throw in prison for 10 years(security isn't cheap, TANSTAAFL)---they don't make money to support families with, a nice little deterent---and if their family is CONUS we deport the family(giving them what immenent domain would give them for their possessions/property).
The Mexican's are frickin' paranoid that we really want to take over their country. I don't want it. Natural resources or no. Let them keep it. IF we annex it/incorporate it/whatever we'll have the same problem with S. American workers flooding into former Mexico(Guatemalans, Nicaraguans, Venezualans(as Chavez destroys that country thru mismanagement), and all the other nations down there that have bought into the 'Pink Revolution.). If they want chaos in their countries that's their choice. They don't get to import it here.
I don't think you really want to incorporate Mexico SWWBO. Look at what happened in LA over the last week over this. That's pretty par for the course in Latin America. They don't have a tradition of 'bloodless coupe' like we have here. IF they don't get what they want the go crazy. Look at Argentina under Peron. Look at Venezuela. Look at Mexico. Incorporating Mexico into the US will just import that tradition into politics here as well. Not smart IMNSHO.

"one thing that comes to mind is to simply be American Imperialists and make Mexico part of the USA and the Mexican states can each become their own state."

Strictly speaking, that worked pretty well for Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Nevada, & California. Their citizens have a FAR better standard of living than the folks who didn't get annexed.
