Goodbye, Whiskey boy.
Our sweet old mutt, Whiskey, passed away this afternoon. He had been very ill the past few days, and he was on massive doses of antibiotics to try to kick an infection probably caused by cancer. Last night, he was on the bed with us, begging for bits of steak (we were very lazy and had dinner in bed, watched tv and played with the dogs and cats.
This morning, he actually went down the stairs to go out in the backyard - we had been walking him in the front because he was very tired and unable to very far - but this morning, he had to go out with his brothers, Houdini and Shadow.
Whiskey came to John before we were married. John lived in Oklahoma at the time, and found Whiskey as a pup, starving and scared. It was apparent that he had been dumped.
Whiskey got his name because he loved to lick toes. John's toes. Get it - he was a licker (liquor) therefore, Whiskey fit him perfectly.
He was not a pretty dog, but more lovable than any purebred dog could be. We loved him, and I hope my dad (a true dog lover) met him at the Pearly Gates and let's him lick his toes.

It's always hard to lose a good friend like that. I hope Whiskey is now running around with my Daisy, Sweetie, and Lola.

Oh, I'm so sorry, Beth. Dogs are like no other creature on earth. :sigh:

If dogs don't go to heaven, when I die I want to go whereever they went. Pure souls that they are they surely must go to heaven. I don't know if I can believe in a Creator who wouldn't have dogs about the place.
Sorry to hear about your loss, Beth.

Beth: I am SO sorry to hear about your guy. I still haven't quite gotten over my first pug and he's been gone for almost eight years...

I'm so sorry to hear about Whiskey. You know he is playing and happy on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge. I'll bet my Katie has already found Whiskey and they are sharing stories about us. ((((Beth))))

I'm sorry Beth. It never gets easier, does it? A place in God's Kingdom for any creature capable of love. So Whiskey is there, healthy and strong.....and no doubt waiting too. I always tried to remember what that particular creatue gave and taught me, sometimes a choked up thank you is all I can muster. But far better to feel that than to relinquish one's humanity. Take care....and there are other starving, scared pups out there.......not to replace Whiskey, that would be impossible. But to replace his presence.........that has helped me in the past.

I am sorry for your loss. I know Whiskey will be forever grateful for the happy years you had together. Dogs do have a soul, something cannot be so capable of giving so much love and ask so little in return without one. You will see him again.

I'm so sorry Beth, I know how heartbreaking it is to lose a beloved pet.

Oh, Beth. We're so sorry to hear about your puppy dog. One of the truest things I'd ever heard was left in the comments when we lost our schweet Schmack Daddy last November. A lovely person (as best I remember) quoted: "Children will break your heart all your life...
But your pets will only break your heart once."
He sounded like quite a fellow. Big hugs.

I am so sorry for your loss. Even when we know it's coming, it always hits you hard. I'll be saying a prayer for you and your family.
Sounds like Whiskey was a lucky, lucky dog to have been loved so well.

My heart aches for you. I know just how deep that loss can be. If you need anything...someone to talk to...a good laugh...a long-distance hug...let me know. You're not alone in this.
((hugs))

I am so sad that Whiskey has gone on - at least the poor fellow is beyond pain. My sister just had to put both of her (17 year old) cats down -- bummer.
