Cat stuff

With 8 cats, kitty litter changing is extremely important. I try to scoop all 6 litter boxes each day, and once a week, I change the litter completely.

I swear, every single cat wants to be the first to christen the new litter each week. Hal usually wins out. In fact, he manages to pee a little bit in every single litter box as I clean them.

I think he is trying to be the alpha cat. He doesn't seem to realize that Little Girl is the alpha cat and Empress of Dark.

Oh, and RestStop came to Houdini's rescue the other day. (Houdini is the troublemaking dog). Whiskey was having a bit of an altercation with Houdini, and RestStop ran to the fight and started hissing and biting Whiskey. (who is about twice Houdini's size).

This was a first - and RestStop is something of a slug most of the time - he normally just sleeps, eats and gets plumper.

Need to get to work!

Sound like Hal is just showing you he appreciates all your hard work.

You might want to look at one of the self-scooping cat boxes. We've only got two cats, but at 18lbs each, it would be a lot of work to keep up with them with a manual box. With the automatics we only have to deal with them twice a week. Right now we're waiting for them to decide the new, more powerful unit is 'safe' for use so they're overloading the other, older one.

Actually, I just ordered two of them - they should get here sometime this week.

If they work, I'll get another one each month until we have replaced them all.

A cat named "RestStop"? Must have great farookin' hair.

A Cat Named RestStop, coming to a theater near you! (Well, if there's munchables, anyway).

Anyone who wondered where Kliban got his inspiration for his cat drawings - here it is.

Eight cats? :O Oh, my.

I knew someone once who found a stray cat on a golf course. They took it in and named him Par.

Allan: RestStop, Little Girl, Barnacle, Little Orphan Annie, Gandalf the Grey (predates the movies, we *are* literate here), Meriwether, Hal, and Cleo.

Add Shadow, Whiskey, Houdini on the puppy side.

Willy and Petey to the horsey side.

And me. Beth has a full house of messy critters.

Down one when Andy went to school...

The Littermaids work fine, although you may have to change the kind of litter you use - the self-scoopers require a good clumping litter. As I mentioned before, we kept wearing out the Littermaid boxes so we're trying a more powerful unit. Right now the cats don't use it much because to get into the box you have to walk across the lid of the waste area and on this one it's a bit 'springy'. The Littermaid lid / cover is sturdier. Actually this new box comes with a nice privacy hood but they found that too intimidating so it got set aside right away. I think the problem with the springy lid is partly a callback to the initial "that thing's kind of spooky" thoughts, especially with Buddy since he's a total wimp.

I am anxious to see how they work - at this point, I don't care how expensive it all is, just so I can save a little time.

Oh, and Allan - I love the name Par for a cat!

Go get 'em Reststop. You show them who's boss.
