Plame Blame Flame?

How much money is this stupid Valerie Plame thing costing taxpayers? Let's see, so far, we find that a reporter went to jail to protect someone who said nothing. Judith Miller needs to check into a nice quiet hospital somewhere where she can try to get a grasp on reality.

Of course, it would be a really big hospital, because every single Democrat who thinks this Plame thing is an issue anywhere outside the Beltway should go check themselves into the same hospital.

Unless the prosecuter has some new evidence that actually points to someone *breaking* the law, I don't see any reason for this farce to go on.

Even the New York Times is embarrased about the whole thing.

There are more important things going on that need to be taken care of. I want to see the Congress and the President come up with a realistic plan for lowering energy costs. The sharp rise in oil prices is causing inflation and before we know it, we could be in the same fricking mess we were under Jimmy "the sweater" Carter - energy costs caused inflation to go up so much that the Feds kept increasing the interest rates to the point where no one could afford to purchase a home (16% interest rates on mortgages), etc. For those of you who were not of an age to remember those years - they sucked. The economy sucked big green ones.

Oh, but that $40 MILLION investigation into Clinton's real estate deals and blow job was sooooooooo necessary for national security. Don't make me laugh. What's good for the goose is good for the gander... and this one might even indict someone. So quit your whining and let the wheels of justice do their thing.

Spoonie - what about *this*?

On his blog, Marshall Wittmann predicts that if Karl Rove is indicted, he will "unleash the dogs of war" against Plamegate prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald. "Rove undoubtedly has his operatives in place and prepared to respond if the indictment comes down," Wittmann writes. "The plan of attack has been signed, sealed and ready for delivery at a Fox News outlet in your neighborhood."

"All of the pack that relentlessly pursued Clinton," Wittmann continues, "will kvetch about the 'criminalization of politics.' They will see no irony or hypocrisy in their complaint..."

Now it may be that, if he is charged, Rove will indeed criticize the prosecutor. On the other hand, he might decide, as many defendants do, that there is nothing to be gained by angering the authorities. But whatever happens, we know that, during the two-year Fitzgerald investigation, neither Rove nor his colleagues in the Bush administration have: a) formed an organized crime-style joint defense agreement; b) asserted novel or nonexistent legal privileges; or c) claimed that prosecutors acted unethically or for political reasons. All of that was done by the Clinton defense team in the Lewinsky matter. And all of it was done while the Starr investigation was taking place and before any charging decisions had been made.

We don't know what's going on behind closed doors. The Bushies have good reason to keep things as hush-hush as possible, out of the public view at all costs. Starr's Special Prosecutor worked in different ways than this Grand Jury. I don't even care what the legal parties do-- the proof will be in the pudding. But for Beth to complain about the cost to taxpayers when $40 million only got the American public the topography of Billy's willie is *highly* disingenuous.

nah, I can complain if'n I wanta - it's my blog!

Frankly, I don't give a shit about the whole Plame thing - and I wish people would discuss more important things.

I won't argue that point... but if Billy had simply told the truth... we wouldn't have gotten that far.

I won't deny that the left is hoping against hope to get something out of this - whether there really is any there there.

Which makes their analysis as much wishful thinking as analysis.

I'll wait to see what Fitz does.

But I *don't* think the Republicans will do the "close ranks and witch hunt".

They'll just take their lumps, if any, and move on.

When was the last time a Democrat resigned over *anything*?
