Olympics go to London
Poor athletes. They will need to bring their own food. Despite all the English cooks on Food Network, British cuisine is an oxymoron. Worst. Food. Ever.
(well at least in London - there are Indian restaurants that are pretty good - but British food --- yuch!)

Beth,
Not all British food is 'orrible. My cousin's wife is an excelllent cook and she is British by birth and residence. Perhaps it is an acquired taste.
Cheers

What's that old yarn... If you want to eat well while visiting England, plan to have three breakfasts per day.

True Boq... I LOVE English breakfast...greasy eggs, bangers, rashers and black pudding. I can do without the rest of it though :)

Jim,
I have no doubt that your cousin's wife is a good cook - it's just that she doesn't work in a restaurant - where England is desperate for good cooks! (-:

I suppose the fact that of the top 50 restaurants in the world, 14 of them are in the UK must have escaped your notice. Anyone from the nation that invented the corn dog had best step carefully when casting aspersions.
It's no coincidence that people like Jamie Oliver are so popular. Brits are real gastronomes these days. If there's a cuisine you can't find in London, the world's most cosmopolitan city, then it doesn't exist.
I'm going to have to start posting British recipes to the Carnival to redress the balance. Cockaleekie Soup, Steak and Kidney Pie, Lancashire Hot Pot, Toad in the Hole, Queen of Puddings, Athol Brose—there's hundreds of utterly delicious British dishes.
