Why must I go to Arizona in July?

Last winter, I traveled to Bangor, Maine and Alpena, Michigan for work. It was downright cold. Snow banks exceeded 8 feet high along the plowed roads. How I would love to see those two towns this time of year!

But, no. I just found out that I'm heading to Phoenix next Tuesday. That is where I should have gone in January! It will be so hot out, that I will be darn sure to stay in a/c the entire time.

All I can say is I'm sorry! I'm from there. Hopefully they do have an AC and not a swampcooler!

I personally prefer dry heat over humidity...but it can get ridiculous there.

Drink PLENTY of water and don't go outside between 11-2 :-) Well, those are the rules in August, might not be so bad now.

Bummer - you need to work on the planning dept.!!

Hmm - Doesn't FbL live down in the desert somewhere's??

She's gonna be moving there, Barb, once she finds a place to live.

And it figures, just last night I was checking with SWWBO about travel... and next week and the week after were putatively clear.

It's all my fault.

Well... I can commiserate with you, Beth, since I live in Phoenix. I get it every. freaking. day.

But you know, you get used to it when you live here. I just feel for you 'cuz you're not acclimated.

Well, I see that Sissy beat me to the obligatory "but it's a *dry* heat!" comment. I'm going nuts right now from the rain, and the humidity, and the busted HVAC, and the stopped-up nose and oozing eyes, and the amazing variety of mold. We have black mold, gray mold (nice and fuzzy) green mold (not much of that, it's mostly harmless so doesn't grow well in FL), purple mold (so purty it just *has* to be carcinogenically toxic) , and red mold, too. (Not much of that, scares me as much as it does you.)

My sister-in-law grew up in Arizona and never knew about mildew until she left a damp towel in a clothes hamper in Gainesville, FL for too long a time. It was "Yikes! What's this green stuff!"

All the best, from the land of decay, Golf, insecticide, and Real Estate MFs.

P.S. The mosquitoes are taking maximum advantantage of the recent sogginess by breeding like, well, I won't say, but there's sure lots and lots of them.

Hey! Save South Florida! Bring Back Yellow Fever!

Barb and John,

Actually, I AM currently living in Phoenix. Pending some details, I'm likely moving at some point next week to Lake Havasu City (still in AZ). Everything is still so up in the air that I'm not even sure what city I'll be in when Beth is here (probably parts of me and my possessions in both locations at that point, haha!).

And Beth, it's 3 to about 6 pm that's the worst in my experience. Just stay out of the sun and keep drinking water constantly. Even if you're staying mostly in A/C, you will be in sorry shape without multiple quarts of water and similar liquids each day. Take it VERY seriously. Even with two years here under my belt I can get busy and forget to drink enough water at times... Then I spend my first hour after school laying on the floor under my ceiling fan wondering why I feel so tired and nauseous... D'oh!!

Around here the business greeting is not "Can I get you some coffe/tea/juice?" It's "Would you like some water?" followed blessedly by an ice-cold bottle of water pressed into your hands. :)

And one more note about H20... DO NOT DRINK IT FROM THE FAUCETS HERE! It takes just like swamp water smells!! Really.

If any of you want to meet for a drink or dinner or something, let me know, I'd love to meet ya!

Ditto on the water. It not only tastes bad, but may make you uh, queasy.

Hey fuzzybear -- got a blog? I'm working on a directory of AZ bloggers. (I'm in Yuma)
