Interesting Reading

When I have a few moments to myself, I love to check out different bloggers. I especially love reading comment streams. Comments can be very entertaining to read. They can go off on some pretty interesting, sometimes silly tangents.

I was just reading Roger Simon's excellent post, "Of Martha Stewart and Gitmo". There are many comments there, and the comments lead to more and more ideas and then suddenly, Triticale posts a link to his Okra Pickle recipe. And it is not out of place in that comment stream. And then, someone links to this, the Terro-Gator, invented by Are You Conservative?

Someone could write a doctoral thesis on the goings on of commenters. It's fascinating, fun stuff.

Anyone doing such a thesis will need to review the discussion in the Usenet comp.fonts group regarding what the '#' sign is called. What I just found via googlegroups, in the old dejanews archives, entitled Is '#' a "pound sign" or what? runs from January thru June of 1996, and appears not to be all of the discussion. Topic drift ranged from the evolution of the English language to debate of the merits of the metric system.

comments are cool. i've had some really viscious political discussions in some of mine, but none lately.
