More on Identity Theft
Well, it seems that an Illinois Day Care Center used my Social Security number to get a long distance account. My name is not on it anywhere, but my SSN is, so the collection agency thinks I'm the culprit. I explained to them that I have never lived in Illinois, never had a day care center and have never given anyone permission to use my SSN for anything ever.
I have to send them a letter with that info on it, and while I'm at it, I'm sending the info to the Illinois Attorney General and the Kansas Attorney General.
This really pisses me off!

I was hit with an identity theft of my Social Security number about one month before I moved to France, so I can entirely relate to both the "pain in the @ss" factor along with the anger that arises because YOU are the one treated like the criminal, NOT the one who stole the information (or made up the Social Security number that happened to match yours).
Needless to say, this is what got me so interested in the issue, and so outraged over the RealID act, my objections over which I'm sure you've read at my site.
Best of luck to you in getting it all straightened out, and instead of letting your blood pressure rise, write your Sentator and Congressman to *fix* the problem, for this problem is a wee bit more pressing than most they are claiming are "pressing".

Someone told me once that if you feel your SSN has been stolen, you should contact the Secret Service. Who knew? Perhaps when you see the Secret Service people talking into their watches while they protect the president, they are really manning the identity theft call center. ;-)
I hope you get it straightened out soon. How frustrating!
