Yeah, Right
So. CBS News appears to be calling for limitations on the First Amendment Rights of those of us who blog.
Blogs: New Medium, Old Politics
Like all media, blogs hold the potential for abuse. Experts point out that blogs' unregulated status makes them particularly attractive outlets for political attack."The question is: What are the appropriate regulations on the Internet?" asked Kathleen Jamieson, an expert on political communication and dean of the Annenberg School for Communications. "It's evolved into an area that we need to do more thinking about it."
With the same First Amendment protections as newspapers, blogs are increasingly gaining influence
Goodness. As I recall, First Amendment protections are for *all* United States Citizens, not just newspapers! And as I also recall, regulation of free speech is not exactly constitutional.
Is the Mainstream Media is suddenly becoming a threat to our Constitutional rights as individuals?
Or have we become such a threat to their hidden partisanship that they are casting stones in our direction?

"But where journalists' careers may be broken on ethics violations...."
Maybe CBS has given up on news and is trying for comedy.

one more thing - we are in TOTAL agreement about this post - funny how certain people think they can label the internet as "american" - last i looked, it's world wide web...
free speech forever (otherwise, how could we EVER have spirited debate???)
ps, re-reading orwell's 1984 - my copy has a forward by walter cronkite - he talks about the stifling of the press... very interesting re-read - especially now in these times.

It's okay with me if you are a Dem! I have a lot of friends who are of every political stripe, and I think it is fun to discuss issues.
There are a lot of things that make me think of 1984 these days, you are right!
Please do visit anytime you like, I'm enjoying your comments!

Typical liberal think. Let's grow the government to legislate everything!
