It's almost incomprehensible
The death toll keeps going up and up and up. There are some good and trustworthy charities out there who will put your donations to good use. Catholic Relief Services, the American Red Cross (you can donate via Amazon.com), and others.
Personally, I would not donate a penny to the United Nations efforts. They have an awful record when it comes to money meant to help people.

United Nations will never get a penny of my money. I believe I saw a site where you can transfer money directly to an account in Thailand, but I'm not sure if it's legit or not. That's the horrible part of trying to help; Red Cross, even though a portion of it goes to admin fees, at least gets some help to ones who need it.
