Now that W has won

Why are all the left-leaning politicos and commentators demanding that President Bush needs to bend to their wishes? Good lord, people, more Americans voted for President Bush than any other American President in history! President Bush reached across to Democrats way too often in his first term, and it did him and the country little good. He even got Ted Kennedy, of all people, involved in writing the No Child Left Behind Act. He has increased social spending way more then I think he should have - all to reach out to the liberals. But you know, all that compromise and reaching out and the Dems still refused to give judicial appointments even a vote. It does not matter how hard President Bush works to make nice nice with liberals, they are not going to like him, mostly because he believes in God, I suppose.

Conservatives have a mandate - look at the make up of Congress now - and it is time to make the Bush tax breaks permanent and redouble our efforts in Iraq.

Europe, too, thinks that disagreements on the War in Iraq and the UN are all President Bush's fault. Balderdash. I have said this many times before, but I'll say it again anyway. The great majority of Americans do not want to be Europeans - we don't want to live in tiny little houses in countries that have rules about what names you can give your children. We don't want to live in a socialist "paradise". I believe that Europeans are very jealous of us, but are too fricking lazy to emulate our so-called 'puritan' work habits to be as prosperous as America. It's time for our troops to come home ... from Europe -let Germany defend itself with its own money. Why on earth do European countries think they have a say in how our government is run anyway? Feh.

As far as the deficit goes - I don't know where people upset about the deficit went to school, but when I took economics 101 I learned that the government should spend lots of money to keep the country from going into a depression in times of crisis (terrorists, war, recession).

I see no need for a President with an actual majority of votes (not a just plurality like Clinton had) to reach across to those who are going to kick him in the ass anyway. The heck with Europe and the far left. They are wrong about the Global War on Terror and they are wrong about the US economy, and I'm not even going to bring morality into the discussion.

Found you via DSD...

The thing with the deficit - "it's the largest deficit we've ever had". Duh. It keeps going up. When Clinton was Prez, it was the largest up to that point too. But you didn't hear anyone saying anything about that.

Bush doesn't have to worry about re-election now so it's time to kick ass and take names!

The deficit always worried me growing up - it just kept getting bigger and bigger, along with the National Debt. The sneaky little thing that they *don't* tell you is that the deficit as a percentage of the GDP keeps going down - in WWII, the deficit was almost a third of yearly GDP, while now it's under five percent.

We've still got the principle, but the payments are getting easier.

Bush got more votes than any other president ever has,,,trouble is, so did Kerry, coz more people voted. I'm just glad more smart people voted the way they did!

Well, and the little factoid that there are more people to vote, so one would hope the number record keeps getting broken!

Absolute raw numbers are frankly a silly measure - except if they drop in proportion to the total population (assuming continued growth in same).

What would be more informative is the number per hundred thousand voting, a nice, controlled, comparable number, across elections, across populations.

But I'm doing enough statistical crap right now, I ain't gonna try to figure that one out.

One of youse guys do dat.

Whatever happened to the phrases "I respectfully disagree" and "Let's agree to disagree"? Our ancestors have fought and died for an America where we can respectfully disagree. Why are we disgracing our forefathers sacrifices with this rhetoric of hatred that is poisoning the American political system. The fanatics on both sides are tearing America apart with their partisan hate-speech. TAKE A STAND, STOP THE HATRED.

hatemonger: One who incites others to hatred or prejudice

hatred: Intense animosity or hostility.

divisive: Creating dissension or discord.

STOP THE HATE.

I think it is amazing that many of the people here on this site are completly ignoring many of the true facts. Bush has won again why I have no clue? I truely think it is sad when people act like everyone has to agree with the right wing attitude. When did this come into play? It happened over the years slowly but now it is out of hand because of the Bush administration. And you can sit here and say whatever you want to say but everyone knows this is the truth. They have turned criticism into some kind of evil idea. How dare people think differently then you and republicans!! How innocently you have forgotten to mention the thousands of american soliders that have been killed. For what? Nothing is being solved. And those weapons of mass destruction where are they? First we knew they were in Iraq but wait when the UN went and inspected it they were no where to be found. And of course people forget that Osama Bin Laden was the leader for the 9/11 attacks so why aren't we solely in Afghanistan? Cause at first Osama was "not a huge threat" (bush actually said that) then he is a threat wait now hes not?! Talk about flip flops! Why the hell are we in Iraq? Maybe to finish Daddys war? I also find it very amusing that to this day republicans still try to blame things on Bill Clinton. Clinton was so far one of the best Presidents we've ever had. People had jobs, less people were on welfare, people were safe, and when clinton lied nobody died. Democrats aren't mad at Bush because he believes in God. Many are very christian also I know I am. But I don't have to tell everyone in every sentence how Christian I am like Bush. A true christian knows they are christian they don't need to use words to describe their belief in God. We're moving backwards not forwards with this administration. Women are losing their rights, their getting paid less then they ever have and we're getting told what to do with our own bodies. No man has the right to tell a woman what she can and can't do with her own body. If you don't agree with abortion fine don't have one. If you don't agree with gay marriage then don't get married to a homosexual. But banning the rights to women and homosexuals won't solve anything. There will ALWAYS be homosexuals and there will ALWAYS be women who want to have an abortion. If women get their right to have an abortion taken away its not solving anything. If they want one bad enough they will get back alley abortions which will probably not only kill them but their child also. You can never speak for everyone you don't know what kind of situation they're in. They could have been raped or what about incest? And I find it incrediable that people would worry more about two males getting married then having a job. I don't know about you but when I get out of college I want to have a job. I will never agree with bush and I will never agree with republicans. And I'm not unpatriotic. I love America and I support our troops enough to want them home and alive but I do not love nor support our President.

When you grow up and get out of college you might just see the world a little differently.

It may help if you did a little research instead of relying on the opinions of others.

I love how you try so hard to impune others with your "truth" and better than everyone else attitude. You sound like a twit. You didn't have to tell us you were in college - it's obvious that you are still very young from your writing.

Andrea,

What really concerns me is that you managed to get into college. You don't seem to understand possessive nouns, punctuation, capitalization, etc.

And as far as there will always be women who want abortions - well, there will always be men who want to kill their wives - that does not mean that wife killing should be legal.

You need to take a philosophy course - logic strikes me as a good choice for you.

Andrea, one of the most important lessons I learned both during and after my college years was to resist the temptation to speak in absolutes such as "always" and "never". Another was to be sure I made my argument clearly and concisely if I had any hope of persuading anyone of anything. Both of these lessons generally come with time and maturity.

I could easily look back at own college-era writing and find beliefs that mirror those you tried to present. I voted for Clinton - twice. I marched in Washington DC for Abortion Rights. I marched on campus for women's rights. I volunteered for the Clinton campaign in 1992. I despised the Republican party and all they stood for, and I organized rallies against conservative candidates, or at least I thought I did - I based my beliefs mostly on what I heard my peers and the media said, and I really didn't know much about the issues beyond what was discussed on the news. And then I graduated, got a job and had to adjust to a whole new set of realities.

I went to work and set up a household and paid my own bills. I paid my taxes. I voted. I married a man who volunteered to put his life on the line to defend our freedom, and I spent many long, anxious months while he was at sea, carrying out orders to monitor and contain those who would like to see us dead. I watched with my newborn son as the hatred towards the United States and all we hold dear was brought to our shores on September 11th.

Life changes. So do beliefs. So believe - believe deeply that your convictions are "right." But I encourage you to study, read and, most of all, question not only the convictions of others, but also your own. Knowledge is power. Blind faith and rigidity limit learning and growth. Please allow yourself (and the rest of us) the right to learn, to grow and to change their minds. Winston Churchill said, "A young man who is a conservative has no heart; an old man who is a liberal has no brain." Girl, you're all heart. Let's work on developing that brain!
