Got my Christmas gift a little early
I have close to a one hour commute each way when I'm not traveling. Local radio, be it AM or FM, pretty much sucks. There is one station that does play the alternative music I like, but after this past election season, I can't stomach their DJ's who spent more time shilling for Kerry then they did playing music.
The AM talk radio stations are not a lot better.
I do have a cd player in our new vehicle, but I don't have a huge cd collection, and I don't particularly want to hear an entire album at a time.
So, we bought an XM Sattelite Radio receiver. I will get it installed today (at lunch if things at the office are not too crazy) and I will have my choice of non-interrupted music or talk radio or weather. Unfortunately, there is no traffic report for the Kansas City metro area available on sattelite radio. This is both bad and good. Bad for the obvious - I'll have to turn to AM to check traffic - good because the metro area is not humongous. I never want to live in a humongous metro area.
Hmmm. Maybe I should name the new cat XM? No.

Cool!!!
If I still lived in the US, I probably would have gotten an XM radio by now.
For cat names... I always pick something that seems appropriate at the time. I had a cat named Crystal because I was working on research on crystals at the time, I had a cat named Stormy because she was grey, and my cat now is named Shadow because he's black and always at your feet.

I love my satellite radio (Sirius) - we live in a radio wasteland, and I couldn't live without it. Some of XM's new equipment looks really cool, particularly the personal receiver with built in recording made by Delphi. I'd probably consider switching if I didn't think that Sirius would soon be offering somethign similar. Enjoy!

I have a friend who just moved to satellite. It is THE ONLY WAY to go. I must have this technology. Must have it.

Of course, the customer service experience she just had at Best Buy over lunch today (not good) caused her to return the XM to them and get her money back, in order to spend it (hopefully) with a firm more interested in accomodating the customer who just spent $350 (we got more than just the radio).
But not this particular instance of Best Buy.
Which was a good buy - but a crappy follow-on.

I've had XM radio for almost a year and love it! You've got to check out Comedy XM and of course Fox News. I actually find that I don't listen to that much music, mostly the news channels, Comedy XM and occasionally the Discovery Radio channel. I prepaid for two years which made it less than $10 a month and I don't have to remember to send in a monthly bill.
