For Women Only
Well, at least I think this is something only women will be interested in. I could be wrong.
I was reading the Queen of All Evil and thinking about her pregnancy, and I remembered the incredible cravings I got for some foods all those many years ago when I was pregnant with Andy.
I craved green olives stuffed with pimentos. I would sit down and eat an entire jar. What was so odd about that was before I was pregnant, I absolutely hated olives. I still love them, and I'm munching on on one now.
So, my question of you is - what kind of food did you start craving when you were pregnant, or if you were never pregnant - did you have any strange changes in food taste in your twenties or thirties?

Dill pickles, I wouldn't eat them, all I wanted was the juice so I'd suck on them until all that was left was a pruney looking husk of a pickle. Finally ended up buying great big jars of them, it's what I did all day long. Ewww

Um, I can't mention what I developed a taste for.

Thai food. Actually one particular restaurant's version of Volcano Chicken (3 stars out of 5). It made your eyes water. Loved it then, still love it today.

My doctor told me that it has to do with salt and fat. Your body needs the extra salt for the doubling of your blood quantities and you crave fattening foods to obtain more maternal fat stores. (Hence the whole pickles and ice cream thing.) Had to throw that in there. *grin*
OK, first pregnancy, food aversions. I could not eat anything that smacked of corn or yogurt. Blech. I craved Peanut Butter toast and Ice cream... but not together.
2nd and 3rd pregnancies... bacon and Egg McMuffins. I was afraid my babies were going to be born with heart disease. I NEVER eat fastfood and here I am, caring for an unborn child, putting this junk in my body. I was sure I was going to hell.

as an observer to the entire process, i watched my now ex-wife go from a total healthy food freak to a taco bell beef and bean burrito addict. with hot sauce. for breakfast. for lunch. at 2030, as i'm thinking about hitting the rack. i finally started buying about 10 of them on the way home from the boat, and they would all be gone by the time i got up in the morning. crazy thing was, she delivered, and was back in size 7's a week later. let that be a lesson, i guess.

During my first pregnancy, I ate a lot of Weetabix with vanilla soy milk on it. Haven't touched it since!

I craved Slurpies. I would stop at the Seven Eleven on my way to work each morning. But once I found out that I had gestational diabetes, I had to stop. Come to find out, your blood sugar is the lowest in the morning. With my restricted diet, I was limited on what I could eat. I did not have any funky cravings, but maybe that was because I was eating healthy.

I don't remember having any cravings, but I did come down with a severe peanut allergy after I had my son. I have only recently started eating peanut butter again. Seems it was temporary.

Though I'm male and therefore obviously never pregnant, when my wife (at the time) was expecting with my daughter I most certainly had cravings. Thai food, kosher food, Winchell's and a few others that also required me driving to the opposite side of town and thus giving me a reason to be away from the woman who had become the tree'd mountain lion with a hot fireplace tool up it's backside. Yeah...I definately had cravings.

John's comment had my eyebrows stuck up in my bangs for about ten minutes but. . .
I'm compelled to answer.
With my first son, it was chocolate. Big huge gobs of frosted brownies washed down with a large hot chocolate. I like chocolate still, but that much chocolate gags me. Uck.
With my second son, it was a pepperoni pizza with extra cheese. And fruit salad. Had. To. Have. Them. LOL I also contracted gestational diabetes with the second son; so, of course when I was told I couldn't have sweets, that's exactly what I wanted. Oy.

I could not stand eggs while I was pregnant. Just the idea would make me queasy. The only weird thing was that what I wanted for desert was vanilla yogurt with peaches and granola. My husband thought I had lost my mind, but I was very happy with it. Now that I'm no longer pregnant, it just is not very appetizing anymore. For some reason I could not stand the taste of sodas or junk food, either. Wish that worked when I wasn't pregnant, but no such luck.
