Memos Shmemos
Dan Rather has become unhinged, and with him, all of CBS News. They ought to register as a 527 organization with the Federal Election Commission.
For a good roundup of Dan's latest excuses, read
The Swiss Cheese Strategy. CBS's Defense is Full of Holes.
In the interest of full disclosure, I was in the Army Reserve in the 70's. Originally, I did my weekends at the Richards Gebauer Air Force Base hopital doing intake interviews for patience needing mental health services.
The hospital was closed down, and the reserve unit had nothing for me to do, so I would go and help the warrant officer type out notices to people who had missed their weekend obligation (which was extremely common - extremely common!).
In 1978, we used manual typewriters. There was not an electric typewriter anywhere around. And I seriously doubt that a National Guard Unit would have had an electric typewriter back in 1971 - the military just doesn't spend money that way.

You just don't understand Dan RAthER's logic: the story is true so the memos are ture, since the memos are true the story is true.
Just keep repeating it over and over and all will become clear.

Hmmm, repeating something over and over again...why does that give me a little memory tickle? Oh yeah, isn't that what Sen. John Glenn compared to a Nazi rally?
"You've just got to separate out fact from fiction. . . . Too often, too often, in this country, if you hear something repeated, it's the old Hitler business -- if you hear something repeated, repeated, repeated, repeated, you start to believe it."
