Left Leaning Loonies
Kevin Aylward of Wizbang found this lovely little tidbit in the Washington Post:
(any emphasis is mine)
Former senator John Glenn (D-Ohio) took the defense a step further by comparing the Republicans' misleading statements to those of Nazi Germany. "You've just got to separate out fact from fiction. . . . Too often, too often, in this country, if you hear something repeated, it's the old Hitler business -- if you hear something repeated, repeated, repeated, repeated, you start to believe it," he said.
What's wrong with that paragraph?
Well, first off, the Washington Post assumes that Republican statements are misleading. But that doesn't surprise me.
What surprises me is that for a year the loony left has been repeating over and over and over again "Bush Lied" - and now they actually believe it. I have not heard any conservative comparing Kerry to Hitler because he repeats over and over the whole "Bush Lied" hooey.
I find the comparison reprehensible. Especially coming from John Glenn. It's what I expect to hear from Ted Kennedy (who, as we all know, is known for his extreme truthfulness), Howard Dean and Al Gore.
They have all become incredibly dishonorable during this campaign. It's sad that the Democrat Party has come to this sad, wretched state.
Perhaps if they were more interested in what's good for the country and less interested in themselves, they would come up with decent people as candidates.

Once again you mirrot my thoughts Beth.
I'm astounded that people are so ignorant of history that they would compare the political situation in the US to Nazi Germany or Bush to Hitler. It was mildly funny when I first saw that stuff, now its starting to yank me.
Glenn is no idiot either. He should know better. The hate-fest on the left continues.

At the risk of raising some ire, I question the the ellipsis in the quote by John Glenn, because it shows that words have been left out. I really doubt Glenn's intentions were to compare Bush directly to Hitler, I think the intention was more to say "if you repeat a lie often enough, it is believed to be the truth" which is an idea most famously attributed to Hitler, but hardly originated with him.
Regardless of the words hidden behind the three dots of the ellipsis, Glenn should know by now how quotes are taken out of context and likely would have done well to consider his words more carefully.

Bush most certainly is not equal to Hitler. Here are some obvious differences:
-Hitler volunteered to the Army, was wounded and honored.
-Hitler created practically single-handedly a powerful party.
-Hitler was charismatic and shrewed politician.
There are, of course, common features: both are fanatical, ultra-nationalist and believe only in military solutions to secure futures of their countries. But, luckily, Bush doesn't have guts or brains of Hitler, and will not succeed, ultimately.
Don't panic, kids.

*sigh*
Another person woefully ignorant of the history of only a few decades ago! That astounds me.
Anyhoo, and OT, here's a pic of them pouring the foundation at my house last Thursday. It took 9 of those concrete trucks you see all the time to fill it up and each truck has 10 cubic yards of concrete in it which frankly amazed me although I hadn't given it any thought beforehand. Here's another where you can see the huge concrete pumping truck thingy they used.
By the end of Friday they had removed the forms and delivered a gigantic stack of wood which is apparently my house disassembled...or pre-assembled...or whatever.

While I honor John Glenn for his service to this country both as a Marine and as an astronaut, this doesn't mean he hasn't changed over the years since becoming a politician.
Sadly I lost respect for him a few years ago when he stiffed a fellow veteran Marine with a printing business. This guy did tons of printing for the Glenn campaign and then was never paid for it. The last I heard of it, the printer was going to lose his business over this - I don't know the eventual outcome - but the fact that it got to that point... Even after trying to contact John Glenn personally. I've never felt the same about the man since then.
This just makes me even more sad. That he's slipped so badly into this mess of the Bush-Hitler thing. I think it might be time for Mr. Glenn to retire - his thought processes are obviously distorted. What a shame.

Glenn is well into his dotage. Nobody cares what he thinks or says any more. And considering he was quoted in WAPO, there's no real telling what he said anyway.
