What a day
I have been training a very nice gentleman here in Pennsylvania this week.
We have worked very had at figuring out some capacity planning stuff.
A group of us walked to a really nice deli-type restaurant for lunch today. As we were leaving, the power went out. We walked back to the data center and noted that the very large generator on the roof was running - power must have gone out there, too.
We went in and started back to work. Suddenly, the fire alarms started going off, and everyone was saying - get out! Get out of the building!
So I grabbed my laptop and purse and went outside.
The generator had caused a fire on the roof. Wow. Scary. The volunteer fire department here appeared within one minute - they put out the fire, checked everything - they fixed something so the generator would not exhaust out onto the roof after about 3 hours, we were allowed back in.
I have some great fire engine and fireman pictures, but I don't have our picture software on this laptop, so I can't put them up for you.
Anyway, it was a very interesting day. And I am totally amazed at how quickly a volunteer fire department can show up and do their job - thanks, guys! We were all very impressed!

"Hot time in the city"
Sorry, that song popped into my head as soon as I read that part of the story. It's a curse.
Glad everything turned out alright. Whew.
My sister is a firefighter, and many of the surrounding areas she supports is manned by volunteers. Those guys (and gals) rock!! They just don't get enough recognition.

They don't get enough recognition; Tammi is right. My folk's area is totally manned by volunteers. Awesome awesome individuals. But I kinda feel that way about all firefighters in general.
