They do this to cows here in Kansas

Japan: Schoolkids to be tagged with RFID chips

Imagine being a teenager. Do any of you remember that?
You take off in the car, go to the park, go to the zoo, go to your boyfriend's (girlfriend's) house and then drive around the town hangout on the way to the grocery store for mom.

As a parent, and a once-upon-a-time teen, this is perfectly understandable behaviour. Now, imagine doing all those things while being tracked. Every. Single. Minute.

Bad for teen. Bad for parent. Bad for society.
Very bad for schools and teachers. Good for the chip implant manufacturers.

The only thing that ever makes me think a chip would be a good thing is when I've watched my nephew, who's three now, be fearless in letting strangers pick him up and walk around with him - in parks and restaurants. I know the number of children who are taken every year is a small number, but still... it does make me think.

Maybe there could be a chip that could be removed or turned off. Although I'm sure it would be hard to give that info up when you kid hit the teenage years.

I'd get my four year old tagged in theory. Some guy picked up a three year old in front of her house only a mile away from here and tried to run off with her. He hasn't been caught. But you're right about the teenage thing. Plus, I don't want to think about the damage an abductor could do trying to get the chip out. Great post, Beth. It's definately food for thought.
