Items of Dubious Worth found in Computer room

1. Mustek Scanner - huge - old - drivers not available for years.
2. Empty large kitty litter bucket - we buy in large amounts. Not sure why I was saving this!
3. Cell phone that I thought was lost and replaced about a year ago.
5. One 486 pc.
6. One Pentium III PC.
7. Lots of wires and plugs that don't appear to go with anythingl
8. Grooming supplies for dogs and cats.
9. Grooming supplies for humans. (sometimes my son thinks they are one and the same)
10. Some beautiful fabric, yards and yards of it, and I have no recollection what I bought it for!
11. My sewing machine.
12. My Mother's-in-law sewing machine (comments on usage here welcome)
13. Lots of change.

It took all weekend. I decided to pull up the carpeting and that slowed me down considerably. The wood floor under it is mostly in pretty good shape, but there are some big stains that I'll have to buy a rug to cover until I can get around to having it refinished.

Cool ties? Use the fabric, enlist a friend to help you sew, and use the change to send them to troops in Iraq. :-)

I wish I had a functional 486 to play some old computer games. Maybe John was saving it for that?

Posted by: Jack at July 12, 2004 1:22 PM

No, Jack - John at one time had thoughts about setting up a printer server... but it just never seemed worth the effort.

To the dustbin it goes. After the hard drive is smashed to tiny bits, of course.

Wouldn't want the wrong hands to get ahold of my plans to dominate the Universe!

Sounds exactly like what I found when I packed my office up. Well minus the sewing machines. No No - no sewing. Last time I made something it looked like a maternity dress, and it was supposed to be a fitted shift! Not good at all.

I DID have bunches of material though, and cannot for the life of me imagine when, where or WHY that was there. Geez, I hope I was channeling Martha Stewart or anything.

Had to clean up my place in advance of the packers/movers last week. Ended up with 13 boxes of books and such (accumulated in 2.5 yrs). In addition to the 50+ boxes from previous years. So all my hard copy reference materiels are back in boxes, John, again.
Threw out about four boxes of books as well.

Cheers

Oh, golly - we have a zillion books in this house. THey are 3 and 4 deep on the shelves in the basement and they are still everywhere.

Sounds about like my moves, John. I always had to argue with the movers about what constituted "Professional Books and Equipment" (which does not count against your moving allowance).

They didn't believe it was possible for anyone to have 40+ cartons of 'professional books'.

Then there was the fight over the gun collection. That took a letter from the Assistant Commandant, then BG Franks (of OIF). I think what really torqued them was the arty projo collection, with things like the 190lb 8inch 'jo.

I dunno why they balked so much - they got paid by the pound. The government ate the overage, which, in the event because about all I owned was my books and gun collection, came out to all of 500 pounds over the limit.

Having been stationary for 9 years, that's no longer the case... 8^D

Did you know they have this fusible tape stuff that you can just iron fabric together instead of sew? Coolest invention since sliced bread.

Posted by: Courtney at July 13, 2004 12:36 PM

Courtney,
I have a roll of that fusible tape in my suitcase when I travel for work - it is invaluable when a hem falls out!

There are a lot of very cool fabrics and fabric fasteners that are out there now.
