As Time Goes By

As I was reading today's Bleat, the following lines caused me to flash back many years to my own childhood:

And that's when I realized that I have set up Jasperwood so there are clocks everywhere. Small ones, yes. But lots of them. Because I/m always checking the time. Always.

Oh, dear. I hope that James is not quite as hooked on time as my mom was.

I grew up in a house with clocks everywhere. I mean everywhere - even in the bathrooms.

And that would have been okay, but Mom was so worried about being late, that she set every clock 20 minutes fast.

As a result, for years, I automatically subtracted 20 minutes from the time of every clock I saw - at home or away!

So, James Lileks, please don't do that to Gnat!

It gets difficult to explain to teachers and friends why one can never really be on time.
