Weblogs.com shut down
Wired News: Thousands of Blogs Fall Silent.
You get what you pay for. As Dean says, using a hosting service with your own domain name is pretty inexpensive, unless of course, you become wildly popular (No worries here about that!!)

Wow can ou imagne having a blog you've been writing for a year or longer and losing everything without warning or notice like that? Ugh. At least he says he will provide them with backups of their content...eventually. I'd be boiling mad.

I look at the free service as a way to get one's feet wet. I am doing blogspot now just to see if I have what it takes. I hate to expend too much time, learning all the ins and outs of HTML, let alone any costs, until I decide what to do. It gives me the opportunity to slowly learn HTML, as I play with the template, while still being able to blog.
Reading this shows me I made the correct choice in how I'm handling my blog entries. I write them all in Word and then copy paste them in. Anything I think is relevant to save, I want on MY harddrive... not someone else's space that THEY keep.

While that's a good idea, Boudicca, when you get on a full service host, they'll have utilities for backing up your entire site, in a zipped file, which would allow you to re-establish your site completely, in a relatively fast manner, should your host server blow up or you want to change hosts completely.
You'll get there. You've got the bug, now!

There is so much to learn!!!! Every time I turn around, I'm resetting priorities. I figure I'll get there.
