I'm in Houston This Week
I am at a technical conference and I'm taking classes from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm every day and attending roundtables from 6:00 to 8:00 every evening.
I am very happy that I have this opportunity.
I'll be learning capacity planning and other cool stuff.
There are only about 6 women in the entire conference, and about 500 men.
College women, note this - go into technology - there are a lot of men who would love to meet a nice smart young woman. Despite what some people say about the economy, it is still a good career.

Technology is a great profession to be in, but if your a women you have to be tough. I'm in Engineering, in a manufacturing plant (a very very male enviornment), have been so for the last 5 years. I wouldn't trade my environment for the world, but to break into that area was very tough and challenging. I had to break down the male view of women in manufacturing, I'm talking about men who hadn't worked with women in 20 years. But I do have to say I enjoy working with these men much more than I worked in an office setting full of women.

Machelle,
You are absolutely correct. I do work in a man's world, but I really love what I do, despite the occasional MCP I run into at work.

Likewise, men should consider traditionally female careers...like nursing. There's nothing sexier or more appealing that a compassionate man with a brain!

Technology is still a great field to be in, and I for one really enjoy working with nice, smart, young women!

Yup, I work in a technical industry, too. I am the only woman in our team, except for the admin. I love it-not for the attention, since I don't get any, but because the men are themselves, tell ribald jokes, and sometimes scratch themselves in meetings (ok, I could do without that one).

And for Joanie, the other Captain in my section is (harummf) Male Nurse. But then he's Air Force, so I think it's okay.

J.M. - Good for him! It's amazing to me that more men haven't entered into the profession. It truly is a very rewarding one!

Yeah, sure: "Please bend little further, this will only that a second, you won't feel anything." My sister's a Lab Technologist, and I know how you medical types like to wake 'clients' at zero dark thirty for an important shot, or another blood sample. Your rewards is us. And the needles are dull!
Cheers
