What's in a Name?
Lately, I have noticed that people who disagree with me tend to leave aliases and fake email addresses rather than at least their first name and a bonafide email address.
I don't believe people need to give out their main email address when commenting on a blog, as it is a simple and free matter to simply open up a yahoo email account.
And I'm beginning to think it is cowardice when people don't use even their true first name.
Anytime I leave a comment on any blog, I leave my full name, Beth Donovan, and a real URL and a real address.
Perhaps that just means that I have the courage of my convictions, while people who call themselves things like Patriot Boy or Rank and File Democrat don't really believe all they say.
Or perhaps not.

That seems to happen all around on both right and left leaning blogs. I've seen it on many non-political blogs, usually with snarky or insulting comments.
Sigh...
As usual, anonymity brings out the worst in people along with the best.

True.

Aaaah, I'm not so bloody-minded as that. Many times the names people use are clever ways to label themselves, or to make a point - and to preserve some form of anonymity in a general sense. I don't mind that. Pseudonymous authorship has a place - what chaps me is when it is done (as in Rank & Vile Democrat's fashion below) when they leave bogus nastybombs and skedaddle tracelessly. That's just chickenshit bloggorism and dilutes whatever valid point they may have had. It's the blog equivalent of parking a car bomb and walking away, leaving no trace to escape responsibility - then to come back and watch the explosion from a safe distance while engaged in a psychic wank. The juvenile playground behavior of a blogbully - with cowardice at it's root, cloaking themselves in namelessness because they know, deep in their little yellow heart of hearts, that they aren't worthy of licking the horseshite from the boots of She Who Will Be Obeyed.

yea,,,unfortunatly this is the case...
i'll tell you one thing i feel about the majority of those who bash, insult, and belittle the conservative right... they LOVE the shadow they find to hide in on the internet...because they lack the courage to actually speak out in the flesh.
this is one thing i know in my heart to be true, if they heard me on line in a store to buy a pack of ciggs ranting to the clerk about the front page of the local liberal ragsheet, they would crawl into a hole to avoid a confrontation

Some of the right-wingers who comment on my fair and balanced site refuse to use their correct info - others don't. Either way is fine with me.
TWilliams, yes, you are absolutely correct that if I saw somebody "ranting", I certainly would not "confront" you. You have the right to be wrong, and you may also appear unbalanced. Life's too short to deal with people who rant to clerks about the newspaper.

Factor in mental stability and the dividing line become clear, those with an intact identity leave a valid name.

Good morning Asher

I'm with John. I don't use my real name, but my moniker is hardly anonymous. I always post comments and posts as if people I know could see me do it. I never hide behind my pseudonym - instead it has become another label for myself.
A pox upon those who continue to give pseudonymmers a bad name. (Get some integrity, guys!)

What do you want a donout or something? Are you better than the anonymous? People enjoy privacy for a myriad of reasons, not because they are cowards or are offensive. Some hold positions in which political activism is looked at negatively.
Sincerely,
Jesus
P.S. My real name is Jesus

JC - that's absurd. And I seriously doubt that Jesus thinks I suck (his email address).
This is my blog, and I prefer people use a bonafide email address when they post just because it is a courtesy - YOu don't have to have an email address with your real name on it, but it seems to me the sign of a coward who is so afraid that his views are wrong that someone would go after him for them.
Just remember, when you do post, I will always have your IP address.

I think that throwing eggs and running away in the dead of the night has nothing to do with what JC said.
A nom-de-plume is an age old, respected way of doing what JC is getting at, posting things that might be poltically 'hot' and the person might want to maintain some privacy over such things.
What RFD did was throw eggs and run away. That's why Beth declared the scum sucker to be a coward.

Well, Hayzus did what RFD did - another stealth asshole who looks nice and clean in the comment but slips in the childish comment in the fake email address.
I declare Hayzus to be a wanker. Back to your circle jerk, boy, and brag on yourself. Come back when you can play well with others.

I'd like to make a few points.
1. I take it from your posts that you think I should be bothered by the fact that I sent some traffic your way. That's not the case. In fact, I'm rather happy that my contribution was significant enough for you to notice it. I have no problem with linking to conservative sites. I don't do it in my blog roll, because I haven't found any I like. Perhaps that will change if I frequent this blog for awhile.
2. I use a pseudonym because I've had my life threatened by milita types. They did not find Gen. JC Christian very humorous when I created him on usenet 8 or so years ago. Patriotboy is my name on the web. Even when I play characters, I make no secret that it's patriotboy behind it. My Dirk Steele pseudonym was a mistake. I made a joke with the creator of TAS and he went with it. I wanted to post as patriotboy there, too. I could have insisted on changing it but since my byline links to my blog, patriotboy.blogspot.com, I didn't think it mattered.
3. I put ellipses in my mail address to frustrate email harvesters. My name is patriotboy. My url is patriotboy.blogspot.com. My email is listed as patri...@charter.net. I don't think it's hard to figure out how to email me. I don't like web-based email, so I don't use hotmail, yahoo, etc. The free pop email servers are a pain as well.

Beth,
I have a floating IP address, you could get all technical on my ass but I don't think you could really find me. Oh yeah, I do think you suck.
