Houdini is a real troublemaker

Houdini, the newest addition to our herd, managed to get up on the kitchen counter and steal a bottle of doggie vitamins. He couldn't open the top of the bottle, so he ate through the bottom of it and consumed all the vitamins, every single one, and a good chunk of the plastic bottle they were in.

We discovered that he had done this around midnight, when he jumped into our bed with the half eaten vitamin bottle. So John got up and checked on the toxicity of the particular stuff, and it appeared that he would live through it.

Naturally, he threw up right next to my side of the bed around 4:00 am, and had some icky poopoos, too. Yuch. Warning - this next sentence is really gross: I didn't have to clean up his vomit, as his brother, Whiskey the dog, did so before I could get out of bed. At that point, I put all three dogs out in the backyard, because I figured Whiskey will get sick next, and I was tired.

Honestly, Houdini is worse than any little kid.

So, he survives another day, and I clean up after him. It looks like we will have to put everything in cabinets and then lock them, since he manages to get into everything possible!

I don't know whether I should say "poor Beth" or "poor Houdini". ;)
Some dogs are like little monkeys, tinkering with everything; I bet the guy can pick locks, too.

FYI: Canned pumpkin is really good for a dog who is having loose stools, for any reason.

Canned pumkin - I didn't know that. I will buy some and keep it in stock for the next doggie illness or self poisoning that comes along. Thanks, Pam!

Did he get the name "Houdini" before or after he showed his talent for getting into everything?

Jack, We got Houdini last October. Within the first 24 hours, we realized he could escape from anything and we named him Houdini.
If he wasn't so darn cute, he'd be in a lot of trouble!

When our dog got a hold of a packet of dessicant, (we couldn't tell how much he might have gotten down his throat), we called the vet and asked them what to do. They told us to have him drink 1/2 cup of hydrogen peroxide. So we took him outside and poured it down his throat. Within seconds he started emptying his stomach. It went on for about 15 minutes and then it was all over. Not exactly a pleasant experience for him, but it got out the bad stuff and it was over pretty quickly, with the added bonus that we had him outside since we knew exactly when it was coming.
