You know, there's some truth to your observation. Yet, there is another viewpoint. The short explanation: a lot of American men, especially Anglo white men, no longer think that American women like them much.

I think that as much as anything explains phenomena like this. I don't think that's the only explanation, but I do think that's part of it.

I don't think your average man is looking for a subsurvient woman. I do think a lot of them are disappointed that they can't find women who much seem to like men as men.

Dan, you have a point, but I have to say that I see a lot of young men out looking for the "perfect" woman - one who is preferably anorexic (thanks to gay designers who want all women to look like boys) with perfect hair, makeup and wardrobe and a perfect job. There are not a lot of us who fit that mold.
And those that do probably are using up so much time to look and be perfect, that they have no useful personality behind the curtains.
I was married to a man who wanted a perfect wife, house, etc., and let me know all my imperfections on a daily basis for 18 years until I had enough.

Now I am married to an incredibly wonderful man who does not want or need perfection and who is hardly perfect himself.

Fashion, television and movies have poorly served society by always putting forth only beautiful women as normal women to have romantic interludes with. Children see this, young men, young women, and they try to emulate this - but at what cost?

I work at a high tech company, and nearly all the young women they hire could be models - but they are not the ones with the fantastic jobs (like mine!). They spend so much time in the gym (yes we have one at work) and then redoing their makeup and flirting with men that they don't develop their job skills.

Yes, I'm a frumpy middle aged woman - didn't used to be, but age happens, and I'm not fighting it, other than trying to lose weight. But the time I saved by not wearing makeup and looking like a movie star I have used to do things like bring coffee to my husband in the mornings, often when he is still in bed. We eat dinner together every night - most times I do cook, even after a long day of work.

But believe me, the pretty, pert little dolls roaming around America looking for husbands are only going to have time to continue looking good.
