Dreary day

It's been dank and drippy nearly every day for a week, and I'm ready for some sunshine.

Our hometown soldier, Cpl. David Unger was put to rest today at the National Cemetary at Ft. Leavenworth. John has the details here.

Last night, the evil family Phelps came to protest across the street from Leavenworth High School. The Patriot Guard kept them at bay, thankfully. Many of us held flags provided by the Patriot Guard along 10th Avenue until the wake (held in the high school gym) started, then we gathered along the walk to the gym door to stand watch while the wake went on. I really appreciate the folks in the Patriot Guard - they were happy to have us join thier vigil, and I was honored to do so.

At least 300 people made it to the wake to pay their respects to David. No one ended up paying much attention to the Fred Phelps people - there were only about 6 of them screaming obscene things at everyone around. Fortunately, the revving up of motorcycles drowned out thier evil wishes.

John has a much better description of everything here.
