Because, sometimes...

...the bad guy is over that hill, over there.

Is this a whatzitt for us clueless types? I don't have the slightest idea on the rocket.
2.5inch FFAR (Folding Fin Aerial Rocket) standard rocket-pod (well, in this case, dummy) for attack helos and fixed wing.

The launcher rail is actually Australian, WWII.  Used for launching Tiny Tim rockets (also an acft rocket) in the Pacific - though the single-rail launchers were almost exclusively used for flares.

If my memory serves me correct, an engineer's stake and a couple of pieces of bamboo for bi-pods worked pretty well for the opposition.

"Aerial Rocket."

Are there also "Terrestrial Rockets?'

How about ""Aquatic Rockets?"

 Oops.  Correction - 2.75inch rocket.

Joe - there is a distinction.  Aerial rockets are air-to-ground.  So there.
