Nothing's too good for the troops!

So we'll make sure we have a lot of it to give them.

"The Pay Our Military Act (H.R. 3210) is a bill from the 113th United States Congress that would appropriate funds to pay members of the Armed Forces of the United States in the event that the federal government shut down. The bill was signed into law on September 30, 2013, only hours before the government officially shut down.[1]

The bill was interpreted by lawyers from the Defense and Justice Departments to allow nearly all civilian Defense personnel to return to work as well, on the basis that they "contribute to the morale, well-being, capabilities and readiness of service members."[2]"

Seems to me that knowing that  President Obama and Secretary of Defense Hagel have decided to screw your family for political points in the event you get killed in combat could adversely effect "the morale, well-being, capabilities and readiness of service members."

But the bowling alleys and commissaries are open, so it's all good.

In the meantime, we'll step up to help where the CinC and SECDEF have let us down:

America's Fund
The Semper Fi Fund.

And Congress? Screw you, too.

Not to worry, the Immigration Reform March on the Mall was allowed to go forward today despite the closure of all national parks. Congressman Ellison (Muslim, Michigan) and several others of his ilk were arrested during the festvities, presumably by non-working Federal Park Police. Perhaps he was trying to make a sneak visit to the WWII Memorial. Or, perhaps not.

XBrad has said the base theters are closing up shop, though. My understanding is that it is realted to the equipment as the studios are going to exclusive digital distribution and the new equipment would run on the order of $200K. My local theater closed up at the end of August because of it.

John, I forgot to ask (again) - is your office open and are you and Centurion still slaving in the salt mines?

Yes, we are.  Myself until 18 October, at least.  If the gov't is still shut down at that point, I'm done until they open up again or we find work with someone who has money.

The Centurion has a different funding stream, so his timelines will be different from mine.
