Just a scant three miles whence I live, it is still next to impossible for a law-abiding resident to legally own a firearm. I am talking about The No-State District of Columbia. Much hooraying has been yelped after the Heller Decision, claiming that it was now legal to own guns in D.C.. What is not much talked-about is that the District's City Council then turned around and passed a Byzantine and purposefully obfuscating law that makes it almost impossible for anyone to legally own a gun in the District. The Firearms Registration Emergency Amendment of Act 2008.
Emily Miller, a Washington Times editor, and resident of the District is writing a series on the rings of fiery hoops she is jumping through in order to legally keep a firearm in her home.
First Part of the series is: HERE

And who, might I ask, gets Emily ???
I can surely respect your sentiments, but there's this appendage in her hands that might get in the way. It just might chill your thinking. It is a good thing she is distracted or you might be extracted.
Just a thought.
Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt. We can all see which side of that adage you fall on...
I read the entire series. If any other civil right were to be resticted like that every capon connected with those restrictions would be in jail.
Note that Emily STILL does not actually have a gun of her own, nor is she anywhere near finished navigating the bureaucratic maze run by public employees about as competent and enthusiastic and helpful as anyone would expect to find in the District of Columbia.
Of course, all these impediments are theoretically "for public safety" so that "criminals won't get guns and hurt people." However, the crime and body count in DC on a daily basis proves those excuses are worthless obfuscation by elite politicians and idiots (but, I repeat myself). Any drug dealer or street criminal can get a gun in a matter of hours with none of the hassles a law abiding citizen must endure.
Chicago is nearly as bad, or so I am lead to believe. These are the sorts of infringements that I am sure Obama and his corruptocrat cronies would love to implement, with a stroke of a pen, if possible- albeit not necessarily Constitutionally permissable.
I look forward to seeing the [far too many] remaining installments of "Emily gets her gun." I hope that they are then used as conclusive proof that the entire DC gun control scheme is totally unconstitutional and thrown out. "Miller vs. Distric of Columbia" has a nice sound, doesn't it?
(lordy, if a States made it that difficult for blacks to vote......)
I did read all 11? 12? installments of the series, and have it bookmarked so I can keep up.
When the State cheats the citizens, maybe the citizens should cheat the State.
