"Castle Technical" update

There has been desultory work done on the Technical, seen here with her new windshield, still sans wipers, and some assorted stuff to go with her when she's on display... like the mermite cans. The can on the right actually got deployed in early in the war on terror before being surplused out. The one on the left is an older one, dated 1969, and is a Landers, Frary and Clark (LF&C) product. Blade collectors will recognize the name.  They have their inserts and seals - though the LF&C needs her new lid seal installed.

Castle_technical_update.jpgA while back I put out a bleg for some assistance regarding the Vietnam-era PRC-25.  It was mostly complete, but was missing all the screws and washers that held the "dummy cords" on.  For those new to the term, a "dummy cord" is a lanyard attached to a weapon, so the soldier won't lose it... especially ones prone to doing so.  In this case, it refers to the tiny cords that hold the various removeable covers on the radio.  The answer was... #4 machine screws.  A little spot paint and she's pretty much done.  Here's a nice view of her PRC-10, there for when she's doing Korea-through-early-60's impressions.



Here's another view of her cargo area, showing the work that needs doing.  There's some paint harmonizing to be done though I am not being really strict on this like many of the competitive collectors who show their vehicles for prizes.  I want her to look like what she was - a working girl, not a painted lady.  Part of this winter's task list is getting the M31 tripod supports welded to the frame so that I can properly secure the tripod legs.  My neighbor, who is helping me with some of the automotive work, is getting a certified welder buddy of his to drop by and do the work - we want it done right, and don't want a fire...   You can also see her M-11 Decon bottle there in the background.  

Automotive work planned for the winter is a rebuild of the front end, probably up to and including the steering gearbox, an engine tune-up, and some wiring harness work with the headlights.  Previous owners cut the proper connectors, replaced them with more modern ones, and then probably still wondered why the 12 volt bulbs they were using in the 24 volt electrical system didn't last very long...

IS there a 24 volt generator under the hood, or is it an alternator? Love to see pictures when you have time.
 
Yep.  Generator, regulator, starter.
 
She's looking great!  Old Jeeps are one of the worst addictions known to man, chances of rehabilitation are slim.  Yes, I'm an addict. 
 
Heh. My old Jeep is... quite the character. And it's not even that old. Just decrepit.
