Puh-leeeze.

From the KC Star email alert:

Obama announces total Iraq troop withdrawal

WASHINGTON | President Barack Obama has declared an end to the Iraq war, one of the longest and most divisive conflicts in U.S. history, announcing that all U.S. troops would be withdrawn from the country by year's end.

"Longest and most divisive conflicts in US history..." Heh. Clearly the person who wrote *that* line missed the 1960's...

And, we should note - this is because our government and the Iraqi government couldn't come to an agreement over a Status Of Forces Agreement that would protect US troops from prosecution in Iraqi courts.

Not because the President suddenly decided it was the right thing to do - this is making a virtue of a vice, since the President supported leaving troops there if the Iraqis would agree.

I'm all for, as MajMike puts it: "Bringing the Legions home..."  I just think we should perhaps be a little less disingenuous *and* more historically accurate in characterizing it...

I think that author missed the 1860s as well...along with the 1870s

Bush lied, people died.  There was an agenda in the KC Star email alert.  They are in the top 5% of the most liberal editorial pages in the country easy.

Celebrations are most likely breaking out...in Teheran.

But, if Iraq is not willing to grant immunity for any remaining troops, then adios, amigos.  Good luck with them Persians.  Don't call us again, because we already gave blood and treasure to free your ungrateful arses once.

Inshallah, the Saudis (if the Kingdom is still able) might help their co-religionists, but it appears that the feeble flame of freedom we helped ignite in the region is about to be extinguished.

And meanwhile, we dump on our only true ally in the area, Israel.

Nice going, Barack Hussein Obama.

In a war, one side decides, when, where, why, how and if they're going to start a war. The adversaries, then decide, when, why, how and if they're going to end that same war. There are *NO* exceptions!

Drugs will do that to you .. and the staff and management of the "Red Star" were obviously active participants.

Party on dudes!

If only we had a POTUS with integrity... but then, the voters get what they collectively deserve.

Well, what do you expect...  A community organizer is someone who steps in and takes credit once other people do the work...

I think it's a horrible idea, but I'm not the one in charge.  I will say in the author's defense though, he did say "... ONE of the longest....." this would mean others were included.  Just a grammatical thing.  Keep up the great work and I'll keep reading.

I'm slightly curious, I have my own tiny bit of gun pr0n.  Nothing unique or extravagant, but I am still rather proud of a custom S&W .357 that my father had for at least 25 years and gave it to me a few years ago.  I just need to get some actual time available to go practice.  At least I can keep it clean until I get that chance.

Wow.  Moving up in the world: spam comments in Spanish!

I caught part of this presser while I was in the gym this morning.  Not once did I hear the words "victory" or "win"....just "end"...

Volstaff - use of the "one of" in the sentence is a fig leaf to provide the cover for them that you just described.

"Longest" is supportable.  "Most divisive" requires some deliberate historical obtuseness or ignorance.

Weasel words. It's the SOP of leftist journalists and politicians, most of whom seem to be stranded in their adolescent years, unable or unwilling to mature.

Of course, if the blurb-writer is, oh, say, 31, from their perspective, history just being a meaningless distraction useful only for deconstruction to serve political and cultural purposes, and the only experience that counts is that which you have lived through (and the experience of those older than you is, of course, of malign aspect) then this is a facially true statement.
