On My Command - Ready, CHEER!

Geesh - Why don't you bring out the cattle-prod, ADM Mullen?

But if we must compare and contrast, why don't we.

Going to the original clip, notice how the White House has edited-out the embarrassing Hail-to-the-Chief entrance.  Also, notice the wooden long faces suffering through his 12-minute filled Socialist pablum.

Or the crowd may have been filled with a bunch of Wesley Clark wannabees, eagerly lapping it up.

That's raaaaacist!

How dare you compare and contrast factual evidence!

That's just downright embarrassing....

I always hated the bogus "dog & pony" shows.

I even more hated being used as a prop.  Though it did allow me to bounce the Russian Ambassador back on his borscht-laden behind.

Oddly, my fellow Jarhead and I were pulled from doorman doody right after that potential diplomatic incident.

You've probably seen this before but the difference in reception might just be the difference in how the two treat the military. Bush is not my favorite politician by any means but the man has class. Obama on the other hand has no idea what class is, much less the ability to display any.

George W. Bush speech after capture of Saddam:

"The success of yesterday's mission is a tribute to our men and women now serving in Iraq . The operation was based on the superb work of intelligence analysts who found the dictator's footprints in a vast country. The operation was carried out with skill and precision by a brave fighting force. Our servicemen and women and our coalition allies have faced many dangers in the hunt for members of the fallen regime, and in their effort to bring hope and freedom to the Iraqi people. Their work continues, and so do the risks. Today, on behalf of the nation, I thank the members of our Armed Forces and I congratulate 'em."

Barack Obama speech after killing of bin Laden:

"And so shortly after taking office, I directed Leon Panetta, the director of the CIA, to make the killing or capture of bin Laden the top priority of our war against al Qaeda, even as we continued our broader efforts to disrupt, dismantle, and defeat his network. Then, last August, after years of painstaking work by our intelligence community, I was briefed on a possible lead to bin Laden. It was far from certain, and it took many months to run this thread to ground. I met repeatedly with my national security team as we developed more information about the possibility that we had located bin Laden hiding within a compound deep inside of Pakistan . And finally, last week, I determined that we had enough intelligence to take action, and authorized an operation to get Osama bin Laden and bring him to justice. Today, at my direction, the United States launched a targeted operation against that compound in Abbottabad , Pakistan "

23.9%, nearly one in four Post 911 Veterans is unemployed here in Indiana.  If a program that might help find a few of them find a job is considered "socialist pablum" by some of y'all, then so be it.

VSO's have been fighting for years for some of the initiatives described and we will continue to fight for programs that help better transition our active duty to civillian life.

I think part of the problem is an inability anymore to separate any of the message from the messenger.

Then there's the bit that there have to be jobs to transition to - and none of those ideas seem to be working that well, and on that front, the messenger proposes mainly more of the same that hasn't worked that well.

And then there's the joy of things like the Senate Veteran's Affairs committee essentially planning to make the active duty and retired force pay out of pocket (by transferring the commissaries to "The Exchange" as they now call themselves) in order to fund an initiative to care for people essentially poisoned by DoD at Camp Lejeune.

I can't wait for the call to fund the VA by a surcharge on all military-related payments (including disability payments).  No, not being proposed, but not that different in in concept to what's being planned by the Veteran's Affairs committee.

If that's the only way to do things in this environment (since, from my politico-economic perspective, they don't really want to grow the economy in ways that would generate revenues, vice just redistribute the value of labor and capital) so be it.

But we can be tired and grumpy about it.

During the Carter malaise a similar program of tax incentives to employers got a lot of us Viet Vets jobs that would not have otherwise been there.  (insert long narrative of lifetime job/career as a result)

I guess I don't have much problem overlooking the messenger to hear the message when it comes to the causes I'm passionate about.  Getting our unemployed young Indiana Veterans the few jobs that are available is one of those causes.  (Insert preliminary program notes for a planned "hire the young vet" initiative by the Indiana American Legion beginning in '12)

I didn't pay much attention to the first 8 or so minutes simply because there's just nothing much more I can do about the part that has everybody so grumpy.  I've sent y'all Dick Lugar and that lobbyist from Virginia to the Senate, and Mike Pence is my Representative.

Heck, I even pulled a Demo ballot in that presidential primary to vote for Hillary...........so I've voted against the guy twice!  I'm guessing not many here can make that claim.

I'm surprised no one else has yet mentioned the dude on Mullen's left, with the open jacket.  Is this the new "military casual" dress?  LOL

I think the chap was in a business suit, plus a VFW/Legion FS cap.
