FWIW, a few years back, Congress amended US Law to permit honorably discharged veterans to render a military salute on appropriate occasions, such as during the National Anthem, when a color guard passes, at a military funeral, etc.
I wouldn't think it would apply to a President who never served, but it might in his capacity as CinC. I just don't know.
He doesn't seem the type, though, who would ever really get the meaning of "rendering honors".
