Presiding From The Shadows

And we all thought that Nixon was the shadowy one.

(Click to have him cast a bigger shadow)
President Barack Obama, in the process of saluting, participates in a ceremony at Dover Air Force Base in Dover, Del., Aug. 9, 2011, for the dignified transfer of U.S. and Afghan personnel who died in Afghanistan on Aug. 6. (Official White House Photo by Pete Souza)

It would be satisfying to be able to think that he was sincere

Maybe he was, but I no longer believe anything Obama says or does is for any purpose other than to benefit himself...or destroy our nation.

...and will somebody please teach him to salute *properly*?

Our Respects to the Fallen and Their Families.

Did they really send the remains of Afghans killed in that crash to the U.S.?  If so, has that been done before?

Miss L, I don't think they've been able to seperate the remains... that Chinook would have burned for a long time. Thousands of rounds of ammo would have cooked off in the fire, along with grenades and any other explosives on board.
Those coffins don't really contain seperate bodies...
The lab has a lot of work to do to determine what belongs to who.
Damn...

I don't buy it. You have to have substance in order to cast a shadow. What you see is just an illusion, something that resembles a leader of men.

Didn't think of that.... "Damn" isright....

Everyone else is saluting with hand over heart, as is proper for civilians. If one had a hat on, he could doff it, and that would be proper, too.  I don't think I could do a military style salute on a serious occasion. It would not seem proper to me.  Since The One has bowed to every foreign potentate on the planet, mayhap he should bow to our dead. That seems to be his salute, when he really means it.

FWIW, a few years back, Congress amended US Law to permit honorably discharged veterans to render a military salute on appropriate occasions, such as during the National Anthem, when a color guard passes, at a military funeral, etc.

I wouldn't think it would apply to a President who never served, but it might in his capacity as CinC. I just don't know.

He doesn't seem the type, though, who would ever really get the meaning of  "rendering honors".

Fixed.

Y'all are just missing the real *mission* here....as a former ACORN agitator, he was just there to register 38 new Demoncrat voters.

I knew the Pentagon had banned reporters and photographers from the ramp, because the majority of the families didn't want them there, so I wondered where this photo came from.

Here's the answer.

"[T]he photographers who routinely travel with the defense secretary and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff were not allowed to go to the event" -- so the White House snuck one in brought one...

...and don't even *think* of trying to convince me it wasn't purely for the photo op.
