Let us continue the Whatziss...

You're not there yet. I have great confidence in you, however.

Nope, not a 10 gauge shell nor an artillery primer, as Martin and Raging Tachikoma suggested.  Nor, as GunnerMk42 proffered, is it a 5" powder can (with cat hair for scale, courtesy Bibi), though one can see where he got the idea.  Nor is it a training round for a tank, as Augetter opined.  Argent's analysis, though incomplete and perhaps a touch overstated, contained nuggets of goodness.  Heartless is just being silly to cover his unwillingness to take a risk -  that thing looks nothing at all like my wastebasket.  What to do with Cannonshop?  Even though he is involved in the building of marvels of modern technology, he's so gun shy that he tries to inoculate himself against failure with a dose of "Woe is me, I'm probably wrong like always..."  and then he's.... well, wrong like always.  He's off-planet, too.  Same stellar system perhaps, but wrong planet.

As for Sly, tell MH to look you in the eyes, he won't see boobs alla time.  Well, since he's a Marine, he'd have to avoid mirrors, too.

And no, it's not an artillery rangefinder, either - though again, you can see where Gromit got his inspiration.

[Unlike yesterday, this one *does* enlargify if you click on the picture.]

As per usual with you guys - you are closer than you think, farther than you'd like - and need some synthesis.  Those of you who are regular players are really getting quite good at it.

One of those tube things that the powder charges come in?

I think this is one of maybe two things, either a case for an MG barrel of some sort or maybe an insert from and old style marmite insulated container. I am just throwing stuff against the wall to see if it sticks at this point.

Some type of tank periscope.

The part that intrigues me is the bayonettage type fixing ring. So whatever this attaches to, either has the inverse portion of the bayonet-type attachment, or it has a lid that ids operated in that manner. I'm anxious to see the rest, so to speak, of the story.

charge bag shipping container repurposed as a GDP map case

It's the pressure canister for the next batch of homebrew to be dispensed from the kegerator.
