After the latest round of Defense budget cuts reduced allocations for winter gear, a soldier takes matters into his own hands by knitting a sweater en route to Afghanistan.

A soldier knits some rounds after shooting a few.  It looks like he is using circular needles, but  I can't be sure without enlargification.

Reminds me of a story my aunt told. She was an OTR truck driver. She used to knit Christmas presents as she drove, those long hours on the road could be boring.

Once she's driving on one of the nicer sectins of the Alcan, when a trooper runs up alongside, yelling out the window "Pull over! Pull over!!"

Nonplussed, Aunt sue showed him her knitting and yelled back "No! It's a Cardigan!!"

Perhaps she's the soldier who pulled the wool over Obama's eyes and made him think that we would all bow to his decision to pull out of AFG and Iraq.
