Any belief system that finds dogs unclean or not worthy to be companions to mankind doesn't deserve to survive.

My son was lucky enough to have been given an Afghan dog on his last deployment by some kinda village elder as a sign of friendship.

The puppy was named Kujo, and the senior dog in the outfit "Z" for Zombie, began mentoring her. Teaching here where to stand post at night and alert the soldiers to any approach. Z died at her post. Kujo took over the post. She began mentoring Voodoo the new puppy.

Kujo was fortunate enough to ride the freedom flight back to the USA, and arrived late last week. She was glad to be reunited with her soldier, and family.

Word came early last week, Voodoo died at her post.

These are not military dogs. They were all volunteers, sort of local militia who bonded with our troops.

Welcome home Kujo, and oh that green stuff you are walking on .... it won't hurt you.

What MM said.  The Exterior Guard doesn't face the same threats Kujo, Z, and Voodoo did - but they have shed blood in defense of the Castle and those who dwell within.

Not that the guineas necessarily appreciate that.

The exterior guard obviously takes the peace of Castle residents seriously. I liked Guineas when I fist saw them at my Grandparents farm in TN back in those stone age 50s. Then I tried to sleep that night and almost anything would get them honking.

You get used to it.  Like everything, they have a language of sorts, and you learn what the various sonds mean  - and which ones merit attention.

QM, I like the fact that you were introduced to your Grandparents'  Guineas "back in those stone age 50s.". This means either you're an old phart or quickly becoming one. *Welcome to the group!* ; - )
