[sarcasm]Real fashion icons these guys[/sarcasm]  Very nice East German AKMs though, early ones too as evidenced by the wooden forearm that was used until they developed a synthetic number that wouldn't melt during use.

Nerf pistol? Medals for the first Berga retreat, the second Berga retreat and winning the hummus eating contest at Mo's Big Hummus Stand and Ammo Dump.

Just out of curiosity,  can anyone in the know about such things speculate on the source of the holes in the bed of the truck in the second picture?  Front one looks like an impact but the rear, not so much.

The two might be related Gary.  Hard to say, it's not like these guys are delicate with the paint job.  I've seen utes like this in the sticks but not usually quite so bumpy.

What is that pistol??! Mister International contestant is holding up?

Dammit!  I better go check the pistol cabinet.  That looks like one of my flare pistols!

Looks like the truck got shot up and burned.  The second hole might be damage from ammo cook-off inside the bed.

Yeah.  The medals are a nice touch.  As are the thumb cuffs.

They look like 30mm holes. My guess is that the truck got stitched from both directions.

I was thinking that possibility, too, Bill, save there doesn't *seem* to be concomitant damage to the ZPU-2.

"Concomitant Damage?  You think a meteor did that?

And what about the AF cami coat the first guy is wearing? Or is that Navy?

We are trying to help these people run a country? Maybe we sent the EPA or the TSA instead of the DOD so Obama could say we have no troops there.

By the looks, that technical just had an encounter with an effusive kinetic statement.

Greetings:

Where's Mad Max when you need him ???

I HATE threadjacking, but there's really no place to put this.  If you go to the following link (it's the opening credits of Blackboard Jungle) take a look at the Make Up credit:

Something our resident whirlybird driver want to tell us about what he was doing in 1955?

If memory serves there was a report  this past weekend that a NATO aircraft shot up a rebel column at night. Apparently the locals were using their AA gun for "happy fire" and our guy(s) took it as  hostile fire.

The Village People....

You know MikeD,  I'd say that UnkaBill hasn't lost his touch after all of these years.  The mini-bluderbuss wielding rebel's mascara looks fantastic.

That is indeed a verra verra shiny AK.

I'm so used to seeing (in pictures like this) heavily-worn ones with lots of missing finish that it's kinda shocking.

It's either a flare gun or blunderbuss have come back in style

That is an old Very Pistol; just saw one at the gunshow this weekend.  The guy wanted $239; said it was WWII British. Weird to see one being brandished in Libya (Mebbe it's an actual Relic?)

...there doesn't *seem* to be concomitant damage to the ZPU-2.

DU doesn't 'splode when it hits. *Something* hit the truck, and whatever hit it is likely the thing that torched it and scorched it.

Something our resident whirlybird driver want to tell us about what he was doing in 1955?

You mean *before* I built the tree fort or *afterward*?

Ya, Bill, I know that.  But looking at the hole, you'd think there'd be some visible damage to the ZPU-2.

They had to mount the ZPU in the bed somehow, so I suspect the holes could be from Omars welding shop and Hummus stand.

Yeah, Scout - be funny if that's just the hole they punched in the side to fit the stub of the wheel axle, given all the head-scratching we're doing.

I hope that I don't have head-lice.  Last thing I wanna do is cause a mass outbreak of head-scratching.

What's the stainless steel looking thing with all the threads next to the handcuffs in the 1st photo, and next to the rocket tube in the 2nd? Someone in the know please tell me it isn't the battery unit for an SA7?

Oh those are Mortar Fuzes.  I do miss selling them babies, Ronin.

I'm thinking that's a fuze of some sort, Ronin.

Just goes to show there are mall ninjas anywhere you go.

But looking at the hole, you'd think there'd be some visible damage to the ZPU-2.

It looks like it caught some high-speed dings around the base, but I think the chipped paint visible on the inside of the ammo can mounts is probably due to careless loaders. Plus, the truck may only have taken three hits -- Air Force gunnery ain't what it was in Dusty's day...

I'm wondering about the large cartidge carried horizontally in the top picture,
and those grenades, Russki type F-1's?

Yeah, Prim, looking at the grenade, I'm thinking, like, 1916?

If he had any courage, he'd have dug up some of those very unsafe Italian grenades which might still be there.  On second thought, those prolly all blew up years ago because somebody stared at them, or a mouse crawled across them, or something.

You know when I saw those pictures, all I could think of was the scene "Badges? We don't need no stinkin' badges !!! " from Treasure of the Sierra Madre.(and Blazing Saddles and a host of others....)

Thumb cuffs!  I have only read about those on the, uh, Nasty parts of the Internet!

Hey...the guy standing on the ZPU with the long gun in his hand....What is that? Shotgun?

I'm wondering about the large cartidge carried horizontally in the top picture,
Looks like a 20mm round.
