I have no doubt you'll get the easy part, and quickly, too. The question is - who will be the first to think like the Armorer? Once we've established that, we'll know where to send help.And don't fixate on the jumble of rifle butts (Though if you want to play "Match the butt to a rifle," fine with me!). They're part of the re-work of the interior of the Arms Room so that I can use the '34 dated Brit "tent pole rifle rack" and get some rifles out of being double-stacked to being on display, and at the same time including a relatively unique bit of Brit between-the-wars kit.
And for those who care about these things, John (Not The Armorer) handled the acquisition.

Purty expensive marshmallow roasting thingee.
It's the carpet that bothers me. It's, it's, clean! Besides the lack of bloodstains,
(which must mean The Armorer has been staying away from sharpy-edgy things);
there's no spent primers, no spilled powder grains, no OTS discard brass,
springs, screws, ect. Worst of all, no cat hair!
The stock is a Mannlicher civilian type, quite common in Europe.
What I can't figure out (aside from exactly what this thing is) is why a obviously civilian rifle retains the stacking sling.

Hehehehehe. I said, "Pole."
[Really inside joke for long time readers]
Obviously European, notice the dark stains on the end of the butt. You know how they are about deodorant. You probably set it on the floor while you tried to figure out how to fit this too short rifle onto your tent pole rifle rack.
The '88 carbines were built original with turned-down bolt handles-a feature that was also popular with 'sporterized' bolt rifles after the Great War.
So... maybe a Police or Substitute-Standard-issue weapon?
boobies... don't mention a bayonet... steak... they'll never guess... ooh a Panzer IV Ausf C with genuine Bulgarian field modifications and we have room. I wonder if SWWBO will notice delivery... must put more cat hair on next one...
No no it's not working... wait that's it. "unique bit of Brit" is some kind of hint.
For you guys overthinking it - Kirk has it correct on the weapon type, Gewehr 91. In original configuration, to satisfy Cannonshop.
Still not quite figured out the "twist."
The twist is Armorer-centric. The answer lies in the comments, just no one has synthesized it.
