I'm sure this will help!

I think some zinc bars might help.

air intake for engine?

Amphibious tractor  - or a bulldozer/tracked construction equipment.

The color certainly looks "naval".

With that corrosion rampaging across it, it's gotta be something the Navy owns...

Nope.  Definitely not a B-52.

Is it a DUK-W?

DUKs had normal truck wheels (used the GMC duece and a half platform).

Ya think the shadow is something to hold a flag at the back of some Navy thingy. The intake covers are welded on like someone had an after thought. I'll go with something ike a LCT or LCI. But I'll vote against a '65 GTO.

I will go for an amphibious amored vehicle, the exhaust vents at the back and probably late forties or early fifties vintage. Just for fun, let us consider it is a repainted Warsaw Pact item that has somehow made its way to America. Perhaps a museum piece or privately owned after purchased as scrap salvage. Hey, a guy can dream, can't he?

The rim- if that's what it is- is too heavy to be an amphibious vehicle rim, which would have been stamped steel. Also, DUKW's had outboard gear on the wheels.

There's a version of the m4 shermie that uses that  wheel configuration, but it's no surprise that it might also be used elsewhere. There are only so many ways to make a wheel after all.

I considered a Amtrak or a old LVT but Og I think pretty much dealt with that. Based on the corrosion it's seen salt, but that doesnt neccesarily equate to Naval operations, nor does the color as the Phillipine Marines love the color blue in their camoflauge for some weird reason.

But even with those disclaimers I can't help but think this thing is in the LVT/LVTP/Amtrack family

Hmmm, I am thinking something either German or Soviet  of WW2 vintage, of the tracked variety.  Don't let the gray paint fool you, that is the shade that Army meseums use to protect outdoor displays until funds are available for restoration and painting in the proper color(s) and patterns.

I agree with Bill. That's definitely Navy. I spent two years looking at the colors of gray and rust red and remember them all too well. If it were green and rust red, then I'd say it was Bill's slick.

Heh -- alumin(i)um oxides a greyish white. If it's green and rust red, it's a robot elf that got TDY as a lawn gnome...
